We recently connected with Christina Bernal and have shared our conversation below.
Christina, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creative juices flowing by surrounding myself around people of all ages and backgrounds. Submerging yourself in a world of diversity and culture is a great way to keep your creativity alive!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Myself along with my Husband and business partner David Bernal created 1984 Vintage and 1984 Horror a place where you can get a total retro experience!
For us being Valley kids in the 80’s was a super fun time, we’re the last generation before the cell phones became a part of your existence. We played and stayed out at night, went to the mall, skated and rode the bus. We knew when we had to go home, nobody called or texted us all day while we were out, you’re just in the moment.
At 1984 we offer vintage clothing and accessories, you can come play our retro video games for free and shop our Horror section and purchase a Rare VHS collectible or rent a DVD (Horror & 80’s movies only) and pick up a “Jiffy Pop” pop corn to take home.
Yes we rent DVD’s! and show movie screenings in store, the next movie is “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” on September 7th at 8:00pm.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities… I guess patience, stick with one idea and became a master at it and never give up, all good things are worth waiting for, nothing happens over night except maybe winning the lotto!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes! we are always looking for VHS collectors who want to vend or if anyone wants to sell vintage items especially from the 80’s please feel free to reach out to us at ([email protected])
