We were lucky to catch up with Christina Collins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Christina, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
When I grew up I had to make do with what I had. That’s where it all began. I always knew that if I had an opportunity or a sum of money that I must capitalize off it. When I stepped into the field, I was surrounded by families that did just that. They worked with what they had. It didn’t cost much to arrive on time, do a good job, shadow a peer on tasks I wasn’t familiar with, clean up after myself, and try to do all that the customer asked of me. When you work in an environment where everyone does their part, you don’t mind understanding your role there. And if I could play the role in someone else’s business, I knew I could have the same ethics in my own business. Why? Because no one is going to show up for you if you don’t!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I come from all over. I literally was put out of 6-7 salons because I would show up and show all the way out, respectfully. I gained clients because of my bubbliness and my attention to detail. Right now I’m focused on fine tuning my craft. I can’t do all that I used to do for the price I used to do it for but I can’t guarantee that my quality of work continues to increase. I would never become complacent in any situation because growth is key for me! I constantly look back at my old works and see the changes. Now, after all kinds of traveling and learning experiences, I can say I am a master nail tech! I know what it takes to get better in this industry and now I’m sharing my tips! I have found love in educating others to do better in this industry. I will be teaching more in 2025. Look out for new educational projects and products launching!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Attending college was greatly impactful on my career. I studied organizational supervision, which is similar to business management. I particularly enjoyed business law, ethics, and marketing. Alongside college, continued education has been a great success for me. I take classes from coast to coast to learn about new ways of doing nails. I would tell someone just getting started on their journey to find a business class or two and find someone they see as a master to take acrylic classes with.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
The ideal client for me is someone who has the time and money for me to create a work of art on them. Booking a plain set is one thing but booking a freestyle experience would give you the best version of me! If the conditions are perfect, the nails come out perfect too! I really take pride in my work and it shows!
