We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christina & Eddie Sledge. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christina & Eddie below.
Hi Christina & Eddie , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
We developed our work ethic pretty early on. My husband, Eddie was a soldier in the Untied States Army at twenty-one years old. I went alone to obtain a summer job when I was 14 years old and waited in line for over 12 hours. We both learned hard work from our parents. Additionally, from our military service and our life as an Army family we learned hard work, dedication, initiative, sacrifice, effective communication, patience, resilience, collaboration and resolve—which are also qualities needed to become entrepreneurs.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We are a husband and wife writing, publishing and production team. We founded Sledge House Media, a multi-platform entertainment company. We co-founded the company to self-publish our first book, The Story of Christina and I, our memoir in 2021. After publishing our memoir, we knew it was important to share it and all the other content we have in the pipeline with others.
“Storytelling is our business” is our motto. We are extremely proud of our body of work thus far. Collectively we published eight books, two essays and produced two short films, Joined by Fate and Maryland Closed for COVID. Five of our books are bestsellers on Amazon. We tell diverse and compelling stories that highlight unique experiences and backgrounds. Additionally, all of our books are 200 pages or less to reach readers that are limited on time. We also offer indie authors self-publishing consulting services. We help make the self-publishing process easy and stress-free. We also recently launched a Sledge House Media merch store: https://sledgehousemediastore.com/
We are very excited that our debut children’s book, A Day at Shea is out now! It’s based on Eddie’s true story of going to his first baseball game at Shea Stadium in Queens, NY by himself. The main character is reimagined as a girl, Chris.
Sledge House Media also offers book publishing consulting assistance, services, workshops and video storytelling services. Learn more here: https://www.sledgehousemedia.com/readytopublish

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The biggest skills that were most impactful were 1) Strategic Planning 2) Resilience 3) Patience. Strategic planning is a vital skill to have as you develop in your journey as it helps you to identify your goals and develop long-term plans for your future success. Reading up on Strategic Planning in the Harvard Business Review or taking a course on Strategic Planning would be helpful. Resilience is the ability to recover quickly from challenges. Think of it as snapping back as if you are pulling a rubber band. You witness how the rubberband snaps back into shape. Resilience can be developed and learned each time you are faced with an obstacle Focus on the solution and not the problem. What can you do at the moment to rebound/snap back? That’s also where patience is vital, which is the final skill/quality. Learning patience means you focus on the present moment (what is) not what will be. You also have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable while you wait and work on solutions.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
We have learned to grow into offering a new service requested by a prospective business partner. It was a service offering that we never considered. They asked us to produce a promo video for their non-profit organization.
We wanted to originally partner with the non-profit to support them through a cause marketing campaign for the holidays. We plan to work with them on the cause marketing campaign for the holidays and offer this new service offering. We had to learn and grow to begin offering a new service of visual storytelling. We produced films for our company Sledge House Media but, did not think we were ready to offer it as a service for others. It was enlightening to us since we didn’t think of offering visual storytelling services for others. It was also important to be open and flexible to offer this new service. We also have helped two independent authors self-publish their own books through our services. It was a gratifying feeling learning that we could share our knowledge and expertise to assist others with their projects. It is now one of our missions to help others share their stories.
