Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christina Olivarez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Christina, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
One of the ways I’ve developed my confidence and self-esteem is by failure. It may sound counterintuitive as for some the constant rejections can hurt your self-esteem however, I see it as a stepping stone that laid the foundations for my success.
I believe that confidence is built through taking massive inspired action. Without diving into the deep water, and learning as you go, you will never build those confidence muscles.
One of the recent hurdles I had to develop my confidence muscles was believing in myself enough to end a business partnership and legally take 100% ownership of my second company. I was so terrified. I kept finding all the reasons why I couldn’t take ownership of it. I didn’t have confidence in myself.
The last 18 months have shown me who I needed to be in order to do what I thought was impossible. When I knew my business partner was going to leave the company, I had to dive into the deep water and SWIM aka take action even when I couldn’t see the way. The only way my confidence muscles where going to develop was if I failed. Because those moments taught me how to level-up, how to double down on what matters to me and showed my resilience within myself.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m Christina Olivarez, an award-winning social media & business coach and TEDx Speaker. I’m the Founder & CEO of SBG & Hustle + Socialize and specialize in helping passionate service-based business owners who are the face of their brand be more unapologetically visible online & offline.
I do this through 1-1 & group coaching, the Hustle + Socialize Conference & Community, and Speaking & Training.
From a young age, I was captivated by broadcast journalism and the boundless world of the internet. Fueling my passion, I courageously crafted a digital presence & build a community on platforms like AOL and Myspace. When the doors to the TV News industry refused to open for me, I daringly changed course, embracing the world of public relations and social media marketing. Fuelled by a burning purpose, I boldly launched my blog, the now-iconic “The Social Butterfly Gal,” where I poured my heart and soul into every word, unapologetically SHOWING UP, PROVIDING VALUE, and unleashing my social media expertise upon the world.
What began as a blog soon exploded into something far greater, shifting into the realm of coaching & hosting conferences, launching two award-winning companies, SBG and Hustle + Socialize. Since its fiery inception in 2015, my journey has been nothing short of revolutionary. I have touched the lives of thousands of minority-owned business leaders and empowered young Latina girls through my unwavering commitment to 1-1 and group coaching. The Hustle + Socialize conference and community have provided a crucible for transformation and growth, igniting sparks of inspiration that have propelled entrepreneurial dreams into reality.
Through mentorship and unyielding passion, I have breathed life into professional speaking and transformative trainings, leading me to the prestigious TEDx stage. My vision is resolute, my dedication unwavering, and my impact immeasurable. Together, we shall forge ahead, creating a future where audacious dreams become breathtaking realities.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities and skills I attribute the most are grit, perseverance, and learning by doing. As an entrepreneur, you have to take risks. It is risky to not know where your next client will come from, risky to invest in coaches, programs, and conferences etc, and risky to go all in on yourself.
But having the “ganas” or grit to stay connected to the vision is IMPORTANT. Being able to have a strong mindset and persevere in the face of adversity is KEY.
When you are early in your entrepreneurial journey, it’s going to be easy to feel like you want to quit but stick with the people who are going to lift you up, who are going to support you, who will be pushing you.
One of the best teachers is failure. It’s in those moments of complete surrender that we learn the most.
I am successful because I believe in myself and my vision and will do all that I can to continue to stick it through.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
The biggest area of growth and improvement in the past 12 months has been my mindset. In order to unlock new levels of growth in your life and business, you need to be strong mentally. That also means healing specific traumas when it comes to money wounds or where you “should” be in life.
Your thoughts become your realities. What you think and belief is just as important as what you are working on. I’ve invested in coaches and programs that have helped me with my mindset around money and who I need to be in order for me to do and have the things in my life.
Mindset work is constant and I’m so proud of the work I continue to do within myself to be a more effective leader.
