Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christina Zayas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Christina , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
For as long as I can remember, I believed my purpose was to be successful. Success, in my early understanding, meant being well-known, accumulating wealth, and achieving large business endeavors. I measured my worth by how much I could accomplish at a young age, viewing success as a tangible, quantifiable achievement—something that could be counted, applauded, and admired.
However, life experience and setbacks reshaped my perspective. I came to realize that my true purpose was not about how much I could achieve for recognition but rather about the impact I could have on the lives of others. Success was no longer defined by external validation but by the ability to enhance the human experience—specifically, through the power of music.
I found my purpose in moments of genuine connection, in the exchange of time, words, and melodies. It was not about applause, social media followers, or the numbers in a bank account. Instead, it was about asking myself: Did I leave the person I was with better than when I met them? How did their story change me? How did our shared experience shape us?
My true purpose is to serve—to use the gifts I have been given to uplift, heal, and inspire. In this, I discovered that success was never about what I could gain but about what I could give. And in giving, I found a deeper fulfillment than any traditional measure of success could ever provide.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a board-certified music therapist dedicated to enhancing lives through the transformative power of music. Working with diverse populations—from individuals with special needs and those navigating dementia care to people coping with bereavement and mental health challenges—I use music to help achieve non-musical goals such as improved communication, emotional expression, and overall well-being.
My private practice, INARA Music Therapy, embodies my mission. “INARA” means “ray of light ” in Arabic, a name I chose intentionally to reflect my commitment to illuminating lives through music. I believe that music is the universal language of the human experience, expressing what words often cannot and connecting us all on a deeper level.
Owning and leading my business is a continual journey of learning and growth. It challenges me to develop new skills, serve others with compassion, and lead with integrity and excellence. In every session and every interaction, I strive to not only enrich the lives of those I serve but also to continually shape my own character as a leader and healer.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Throughout my journey, three qualities have proven to be transformative: humility, integrity, and discipline. These skills have not only shaped who I am but have also paved the way for my continuous growth. I’ve learned to let life be my teacher—staying open to change, embracing failure and mistakes as learning opportunities, and treating everyone with respect and kindness. By remaining consistent in achieving my goals and understanding that every worthwhile endeavor demands hard work, I’ve nurtured a resilient spirit and the tenacity to believe that my actions will positively impact those around me.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful gift my parents gave me was their unwavering support in nurturing my passion for music. From an early age, they recognized my love for it and invested in my growth—enrolling me in classes, encouraging performances and competitions, and supporting long hours of practice. Their sacrifices extended beyond music lessons; they funded international trips for summer festivals, sent me to an arts boarding school, and provided every opportunity for me to reach my highest potential.
Looking back now, as both an adult and a parent, I see how their dedication shaped who I am today. The experiences we have as children influence how we think and define who we become. A parent’s love is their greatest legacy—a foundation that shapes the future of their children.
