We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christine Serpas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Christine, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic is a direct reflection of my upbringing. I grew up in Slidell, Louisiana a small city in southeastern LA. Surrounded by lakes, river, canals, swamps, and bayous. A strong work ethic is a way of life, it’s your word and following through. Both my parents were amazing examples of hard work and honesty, passed down from my grandparents, who built our family’s foundation, instilled integrity, and taught us to always do right by others. You get out what you put in!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I went from the mortgage business to owning and running a campground. I own land in a very unique region of Colorado; the San Luis Valley is the highest alpine valley in the world. I love getting to meet people traveling from all over the country and world. I enjoy hearing and sharing stories about adventures and experiences each person brings with them. I especially love sharing my land to allow others to create memories to last forever!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Not being afraid to get your hands dirty, never ask someone to do something you would not do yourself, be ready to work long hours,
It’s going to be hard and tough. Do not allow the “let downs” supersede your vision… keep focused on your purpose.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents instilled the determination, self confidence, and motivation which I’ve carried through all parts of my life, not just in this business. They taught me to have the courage necessary to always try new things, despite how scary it will be and you might fall down, it’s ok though!
