Christon, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
In the history of all things worldly, scared money has NEVER made money… All jokes aside, it’s having a plan and the discipline to stick to it. Failure is the best teacher when trying to make the most of small-budget campaigns. Once the formula is right, the assumed risk is no longer as daunting as when it still needed tweaking.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Since the last we spoke, our side has been busy laying the groundwork for year 4 of a 5-year plan. Blank States has always been a hub for knowledge and empowerment through our publishing arm – Universe Valley Publishing – but now we have a thriving brick and mortar studio to facilitate the growing hip-hop scene in Knoxville. As we approach the end of the year, I’ll be able to speak more on the many projects soon to be unveiled.

We’ve had the opportunity to work with pioneers in the city from labels to networks to individuals and offer our all-access memberships to over a number of creators!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Patience, timing, and being properly researched is necessary to get through that seemingly forever uphill climb to stability as a new anything in media & entertainment but especially so in business. Knowing that you have a journey ahead of you so you can use the inevitable wait to truly learn your industry completely elevates what you’re trying to achieve.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Our desire is to partner with those looking to invest in the cultural & educational footprints existing in Knoxville. Event coordinators, students, business owners, fashion enthusiasts, musicians – the list could really go on, haha!
