We recently connected with Christopher Aggett and have shared our conversation below.
Christopher, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I am a podcaster and YouTuber. I started the show after the writing community helped me with writing and publishing advice. I was so taken back by their support that I had an urge to support them back as a thank you. I decided, after discovering that marketing a book is very tricky and hard work, that, I will start a podcast to give authors a platform to showcase themselves and books. I loved doing this despite having huge senses of procrastination. I had no experience podcasting or creating a YouTube channel. Not to mention producing or editing media content. But I learnt quickly and continued to improve over the five years the show has been going. With over 350 interviews and recognition as one of the top writing podcasts to follow in 2024 and 2025, that came as a result of extreme hard work and resilience. So, where did that resilience come from? So many podcasts fail after a short time and some how, we are still going strong. I think the answer lies in our why. Finding your why is something we talk about on our show quite often. Knowing your why will keep pushing you in the right direction, even in tough times. Our why was simple, to help support, promote, and teach authors about their craft. In return, we learn a lot too. We have brilliant and insightful interviews that teaches us about authors, their lives, their craft, and more. So, what’s not to love? We have our why driving us, and, we have a passion that keeps us interested. If you are passionate about what you do, and, you have your why pinned up somewhere to remind you when you doubt everything you do, then you will find that pushes you forward. Ultimately, creating resilience.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the founder and host of The Writing Community Chat Show, a podcast and YouTube series that champions authors from every walk of life: indie writers, debut novelists, NYT best seller, screenwriters, comedians, celebrities, and even household names.
At the heart of what I do is connection. Our show isn’t just about books, it’s about the people behind them, the Writing Community. We dive deep into the stories behind the storytellers: their creative processes, their struggles, their resilience, and their triumphs. I believe in honest, open conversations that help other writers feel less alone and more equipped to face the unique challenges of the writing life.
Professionally, I’ve expanded this mission by launching a social enterprise version of the show—a CIC (Community Interest Company)—which is a non-profit designed to help authors and creatives beyond the podcast itself. Through this, we aim to run online workshops, tackle issues like imposter syndrome and mental health in creative industries, and offer meaningful support for authors who are navigating the often isolating path of creativity.
What excites me most is how our work continues to evolve. We’re now running community challenges, developing digital products like The Ultimate Writing Resource Vault and appearing at The Harrogate Crime Writers Festival for the 4th year, where we hope to support even more voices. We’re also experimenting with new shows, like The Mental Chapters, where we explore the intersection of mental health and creativity with guests who are both vulnerable and inspiring. We have big plans to grow the business so that we can give back to the community, including our very own writing festival in Wales in 2026. We are currently applying for grants and are receiving donations from our followers to make this happen.
If there’s one thing I want people to know about my work, it’s that this isn’t just a podcast, it’s a passion project with purpose. We’re here to lift others up, spark important conversations, and build a creative community that thrives on empathy, humour, and shared growth. Our motto speaks for itself: The WCCS – TOGETHER AS ONE WE GET IT DONE.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Persistence (Even When Motivation Fades):
Podcasting, content creation, and building a platform take far more time and energy than people realise. There were times I wanted to give up, when views were low, energy was gone, or doubt crept in, but persistence kept me going. I kept showing up, even on the tough days. Motivation comes and goes, but consistency is what creates momentum. Don’t wait to feel inspired, make showing up part of your routine. Over time, that builds resilience, and resilience builds success.
2. Willingness to Learn (Fast and Often):
When I started, I had no podcasting experience, no idea how to edit video or audio, and no clue about SEO, branding, or community building. But I learned by doing, failing, and then trying again, one episode at a time. Embrace being a beginner. You don’t need to know everything to start, you just need to be open to learning. YouTube, forums, and peers can teach you a lot, but nothing beats trial and error.
3. Knowing Your “Why”:
As mentioned earlier, this was the glue that held everything together. When things got hard, I came back to the reason I started: to support other writers and build something meaningful in the creative space. That kept me going when results were slow or uncertain. You must get clear on your purpose. Write it down, put it where you’ll see it, and come back to it when you feel lost. Your “why” will carry you through the doubts and delays.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, we are absolutely looking for partners and collaborators who share our vision. Our mission with The Writing Community Chat Show, now also a registered social enterprise, is to support authors at every stage of their journey, not just through interviews and inspiration, but eventually through direct, meaningful services like professional editing, cover design, marketing, and more.
We’re looking to connect with:
Editors, cover designers, and book marketers who are passionate about helping authors succeed and who understand the unique challenges of both indie and traditional publishing.
Publishing professionals, agencies, or organisations who want to support grassroots efforts and expand their reach to a dedicated writing community.
Sponsors or grant funders who believe in the power of storytelling and want to invest in a growing platform that supports creativity and mental health in the writing world.
We’re especially keen to work with people who see collaboration as a two-way street, those who want to help us grow while also growing with us.
If you’re reading this and you’re excited by the idea of working together, we’d love to hear from you. You can connect with us directly through our website TheWritingCommunityChatShow.com, via email at chrisaggettwriting@gmail.com or TheWritingCommunityChatShow@Gmail.Com, or on social media at @Writing_Show on X (formerly Twitter) and Substack.
