Meet Christopher Akambe

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christopher Akambe. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Christopher , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

The best decision I have ever made and never regretted is becoming an artist. I taught art and design full-time while simultaneously practicing my craft. At the same time, I led art apprenticeship programs for young people. After 10 years in the classroom, I retired from teaching to fully dedicate myself to my art career.

During my teaching career, I wasn’t just an educator; I had the opportunity to be part of the school’s event committee, which allowed me to explore and contribute to every event held at the school. My students are now spread across the world; many still stay in touch with me, and some have become artists themselves or are walking their own creative paths.

To me, art is not just about aesthetics; it is the foundation for critical thinking and future problem-solving. I will always cherish art, in this life and beyond.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Akambe Kreationz is a Ghanaian artist based in the USA, with a background as a former art educator. I have been passionate about art and craft since 2003 and have actively participated in exhibitions since 2009. My work specializes in beading, macrame products, Batik, tie-dye, customized bracelets, necklaces, earrings, woven designs, and collecting art from various African countries. In recent years, I have expanded my practice to include painting and mixed media pieces.

Textiles have always been at the heart of my artistry, and my love for beads led me to teach myself the craft; a skill that remains central to my designs today. However, being in the U.S. has gradually shifted my focus toward painting and experimenting with mixed media materials.

My journey began as a student at Takoradi Technical University in Ghana, where I started producing woven bracelets and macrame plant hangers. From the beginning, I dreamed of becoming an international artist, and now that dream has become a reality. I proudly ship my work worldwide. Seeing my creations shared across social media and connecting with people who appreciate my artistry is a refreshing and deeply fulfilling experience.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Passion is the driving force that keeps me in the art industry. While other professions generate income through their work, artists, on the other hand, often struggle financially, making it difficult for young creatives to remain in the field and practice their craft while also managing their expenses.

Furthermore, I don’t see money as the primary reason for creating art. Instead, I view art as a tool for solving problems, a form of therapy for the world, and an expression of beauty…or ugliness, depending on the perspective of the viewer. Passion, tenacity, resilience equal to success.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I have had the privilege of leading art apprenticeship programs for young people, and as a retired art educator, I believe the most meaningful way to give back to society is through collaboration. Working alongside like‑minded individuals across the art world spanning diverse disciplines and cultures creates opportunities for growth, inspiration, and shared creativity. I would be delighted to connect and collaborate with anyone interested in joining me through exhibitions, residencies, or other artistic endeavors.
