Meet Christopher Becerra

We were lucky to catch up with Christopher Becerra recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Christopher with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Most of the elders in our family were born outside of the United States and emigrated from Europe and Mexico.
As such, they were faced with lots of challenges alongside a wealth of new opportunities afforded to them by the US. Both my mother and father were raised with an emphasis on education and hard work. This mentality has been instilled in my sister and I ever since we were very little.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Our brokerage is independent. We aren’t beholden to the carriers we represent and always put our clients’ best interests first, which is just the way it should be.
With dual licenses as insurance brokers and realtors, we specialize in property insurance. We work with investors all over the world and no matter the kind of property, we can insure it.

We offer a wealth of markets and prospective clients the ability to obtain quotes they can purchase 24/7 on our website for auto, home, renters and commercial insurance.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Drive – my personal drive to succeed and learn has served me well. Regardless of whether you own your own business or work for someone else, you’ve got to be able to motivate yourself to show up everyday, do your best work and continue learning.

2. Interpersonal skills – no matter what, having good interpersonal skills will help you to succeed in nearly all aspects of life. I’m fairly extroverted, but studied interpersonal communication in college in an effort to improve on those natural abilities.

3. Taking pride in whatever you do – it sounds simple, but so many fall short of taking pride in their work. This results in sloppy and inconsistent results for clients. As the old adage goes, anything worth doing is worth doing right.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
With nearly everything under the sun dramatically increasing in price post-COVID, it’s finally catching up to the insurance industry.

Rates are increasing rapidly, sometimes by as much as 50%. This has presented our brokerage with some challenges in keeping clients on the books. Fortunately we have numerous options to present as alternatives and have found good success in keeping clients from jumping ship and deepening those existing relationships.

The sharp rate increases being experienced all over the country have also presented us with tremendous opportunities to gain new clients as they leave carriers they’ve been doing business with for decades. Loyal clients that normally wouldn’t shop insurance are now doing just that – giving us a chance to earn their business.
