Meet Christopher Lynch

We recently connected with Christopher Lynch and have shared our conversation below.

Christopher, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I get my work ethic from my parents. They both served in the Navy, and that foundation of discipline and accountability carried into their civilian careers. My mom became a trauma nurse, handling high-pressure situations with focus and compassion. My dad built a career in wealth management, where consistency and integrity are essential.

Growing up around that shaped how I approach my work today. Whether it’s leading a team of more than one hundred people or guiding the growth of Everyday California, I rely on the same principles I learned from them. Show up prepared, stay steady under pressure, and take responsibility for the people who count on you.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m the CEO and cofounder of Everyday California, an ocean adventure and lifestyle brand based in La Jolla. We started as a small kayak operation and have grown into a company that puts tens of thousands of people on the water every year, runs surf lessons and kids’ camps, and produces a full apparel line inspired by the California coast.

What excites me most is creating experiences that genuinely make people’s days better. We get to introduce guests to marine wildlife, give families unforgettable adventures, and share the culture of coastal California through our products. There’s something special about building a brand that blends outdoor experiences, sustainability, and a sense of fun.

Our retail and apparel side has become a major part of the business, and it’s been exciting to see our products become a national lifestyle brand. We also donate a portion of every purchase through our 1% for the Planet partnership, which lets us support environmental and community organizations in a meaningful way.

At the end of the day, Everyday California is about making fun happen, creating cool products, and protecting the environment. That’s the heartbeat of everything we do.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three qualities have made the biggest difference in my journey.

1. Resilience and adaptability
Building a company like Everyday California has meant navigating everything from seasonal swings to regulatory hurdles to major financial decisions. The ability to stay steady, adjust quickly, and keep moving forward has been essential.
Advice: Put yourself in situations that stretch your comfort zone. Take on challenges that force you to problem-solve in real time. Over time, you build confidence in your ability to handle whatever comes.

2. Long-term thinking with a bias for action
My background in economics helped me understand the importance of planning and data-driven decision making. At the same time, entrepreneurship rewards speed. Balancing strategy with execution allowed us to grow from a small kayak shop into a multi-location brand with retail and adventure operations.
Advice: Learn to evaluate decisions with both numbers and instincts. Start with simple frameworks, track your results, and iterate. The habit of acting, measuring, and refining compounds over time.

3. Leadership grounded in humility and accountability
Leading a team of over one hundred people requires consistency more than charisma. I’ve learned that showing up prepared, owning your decisions, and being transparent builds trust faster than anything else.
Advice: Invest early in your leadership skills. Communicate clearly, ask for feedback, and learn from people who have already done what you hope to do. Leadership is a skill like any other; you improve by practicing it.

If you develop resilience, strategic thinking, and strong leadership habits, you give yourself a foundation that will support you through the highs and lows of building something meaningful.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

If I knew I only had a decade left, I’d spend it with my family and friends. I’d travel, explore the world with them, and be intentional about living fully in every moment. For me, life has never been about money or material things. It’s about shared experiences, the people you love, and the memories you create together. Those are the things that matter, and they’re what I’d devote my time to.
