Meet Christopher Mathews

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christopher Mathews a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Christopher with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I get my work ethic from God and the strength He provides me daily. Knowing that what I’m doing is aligned with my purpose keeps me motivated and focused. It’s not just about hard work; it’s about walking in faith and fulfilling the mission I’m called to complete.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Helping Black Communities Unite Inc. is a non-partisan nonprofit dedicated to empowering Black communities through economic sustainability, political engagement, and unity among the youth. We focus on uplifting students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and surrounding areas by fostering collaboration, having honest conversations, and building systems that improve community well-being.

We own 2 plots of land near FAMU which we use to promote healthy living and agricultural development. We offer mentorship programs throughout the nation along with teaching black history that is being banned in states such as Florida. Furthermore we offer black business solutions for each city we have a chapter. Moreover we bring political leaders such as Senators, Mayors, and Community Activist to engage with the students on a different level.

Committed to love and equality for all of God’s people, we condemn hate in all forms and work to dismantle systems that harm the Indigenous Black and African Diaspora. Through faith, unity, and action, we strive to transform mindsets and lifestyles to improve our communities. This is why we believe our members are “Chosen” to carry out this vital work.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

First and foremost, faith is the driving force behind my works. Secondly, I would say discipline plays a large role in not giving up. Lastly, the love I have for myself and others puts another battery into me up when I may feel tired.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

The most important book I would say is the Bible which strengthens me in all aspects of my life. The book of Matthew particularly is my favorite book which details the work of the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) Christ. My favorite verse would be “But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.”- ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭33‬ ‭WMB‬‬. Along with the Bible and other theological books, I like to read about Black history, science, and financial literacy.
