Meet Christopher Roe

We recently connected with Christopher Roe and have shared our conversation below.

Christopher , thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

I find my optimism to keep pushing my way into the film industry by continuing to grow my knowledge and craft, understanding that I am not better than anyone else but I am only able to be the best I can be. Being optimistic for a career in what seams like a dying industry isn’t easy but I have found surrounding my self with like minded people who want to grow and better them self keeps me going. I am even more optimistic that this industry will pick up again and thousands that have been without work will return.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Chris Roe I am a Freelance Steadicam / Camera Operator in the film industry with a focus on Narrative Feature Films and Commercial projects. I started working in the industry in 2011 working on Music Videos and Social Media content, in 2013 I started working on Commercials and short form Narrative projects. My Steadicam journey began in 2012 and in 2014 I worked on my first TV show as Steadicam operator, since then I have worked as a DP / 1st AC / Camera Operator / Steadicam. Over the years I always found my self feeling the most comfortable as a Camera Operator so in 2022 I decided to focus on just being a Steadicam / Camera operator. In 2023 I moved from Denver Colorado to Atlanta Georgia, I am currently associated with IATSE Local 600 (IER), Society of Camera Operators and Steadicam Operators Association.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

3 important skills I think have helped me in this industry is being a hard worker, fast learner and having the ability to adapt to new situation or problems. Advise for others Production moves fast so make sure to pay attention, if you don’t know something don’t be afraid to ask, be nice we are all artist trying to make something!

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

Moving from a small production city to major one has opened up the productions and skills that I have been wanting work on for years. Not only have I had to adapt and learn new gear and techniques I have also come to appreciate the film community you can have in a bigger market compared to a smaller one. Being able to reach out to other operator and ask questions, go practice with them and ultimately be friends with your peers. Not only has my skills for the craft grown but also the way I feel about my community, as artist we should be able to grow and learn together rather than gate keeping and blocking others.
