Meet Christopher Schafer

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christopher Schafer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Christopher, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I believe that I get my work ethic from my grandpa. I was young when he passed away but I like the way he lived his life. He was a big inspiration for me. I’ve been working since the 5th grade when I delivered the local newspaper.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Christopher Schafer and I’m a husband, father, clothier, philanthropist, musician, skateboarder, and runner. In my business I create custom made suits, shirts, tuxedos, etc. I’m also the founder of Sharp Dressed Man, a nonprofit organization that recycles suits to help men get back on their feet. We’ve recently hit a milestone where we have suited up 16,000 men since we started.
At Christopher Schafer Clothier we’ve just opened a shop in New York City and we’re excited about it!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Believing in yourself, tenacity, and resilience are some of the most important qualities that got me through. I had lots of people telling me that no one wears suits anymore, if I believed them I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

I’ve had some great mentors and coaches along the way but one who comes top of brain is Bill Clark. We met at the time I was starting Christopher Schafer Clothier and we really got along well. He has a Yoda like quality in which he knows how to listen and how to answer questions with a good question.
