Meet Christopher Shaibi AKA chriscameraguy

We were lucky to catch up with Christopher Shaibi AKA chriscameraguy recently and have shared our conversation below.

Christopher, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
Persisting despite the haters and naysayer is a difficult task that many have to confront on a daily basis; yet, it is possible to navigate these difficult waters with poise, grace, and confidence. The most important thing is to remember that you are ultimately on the path that you have chosen for yourself, and no one can take that away. It is important to remember that there are more people supporting you than there are those trying to drag you down. Allow feedback to be constructive and open-minded, and focus on what you have achieved rather than how others have failed you. Develop a thick skin and remind yourself that you cannot, and should not, let haters and naysayers dictate your path or your decisions. Remember to also acknowledge people whos support will continue, despite any opposition, as these people make the journey more worthwhile. Finally, practice self-care, make room for relaxation and have a plan in place for when things get challenging. Trust yourself and your decision to pursue your course.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m an independent film director. I primarily film and edit music videos, commercials, and social media content. I also produce and co-host a podcast called The Richie The Barber Show.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I was in my late teens, I played guitar in a band. I also booked our tours, shows, and launched all marketing campaigns. That was essential in learning how to communicate effectively with businesses and how to manage a band with multiple varying personalities.

Later in my early twenties I worked as an insurance broker, which helped me learn administrative skills, negotiation, and sales.

Those experiences taught me many important lessons that helped me in my journey as a business owner.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
If I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed, I usually call a friend. Talking with someone on the phone is a quick way to get emotions off your chest or even sit back and talk silly and make jokes. Another thing that helps alleviate stress is playing an instrument. I prefer the guitar, if I’ve lost flow in my workspace I simply pick up my guitar, I play for 20 minutes and I normally feel recalibrated
