Meet Christopher Zdarko

We recently connected with Christopher Zdarko and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Finding my purpose was a bit like trying to find my glasses while wearing them. I was always taking pictures, but it took me a while to realize that capturing the essence of people, their passions, and their stories was my true calling. Now, I get to help others shine their own light and, hopefully, avoid the whole ‘glasses-on-my-face’ situation.

Being able to facilitate putting together people and their passion, has been nothing shy of amazing and fulfilling. Imagine a career where you are capturing moments in real time, of people doing what they love (or surrounding themselves with the people they love.)

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m Chris Zdarko, a photographer on a mission to capture the sparkle in people’s eyes. I believe everyone has a unique story to tell, and my goal is to help them share it through stunning and authentic images that pop!

What sets me apart? I’m obsessed with capturing people who are truly passionate about what they do. Whether it’s a driven entrepreneur, a loving family, a model ready to slay, or an artist chasing their dreams, I strive to create images that reflect their individuality and leave everyone saying ‘Wow!’ I don’t just capture moments; I help my clients elevate their vision and create something truly special.

Recently, I’ve been diving deep into personal branding for beauticians – talk about a glamorous challenge!

And here’s the secret sauce: when people step in front of my lens, they tend to forget I’m even there. We get caught up in the fun, the laughter, and the genuine connection. I have a knack for making everyone feel comfortable and beautiful, and that’s when the magic happens.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. The Art of Connection:
Photography is more than just taking pictures; it’s about connecting with people. Building rapport is crucial. I often use humor and playful banter to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, allowing clients to truly be themselves in front of the camera. When clients are comfortable, their confidence soars, and their true personalities shine through. My advice? Practice active listening, ask thoughtful questions, and genuinely care about your clients’ stories.

2. Overcoming Limitations:
As a colorblind photographer, I’ve had to develop unique strategies for assessing color and light. I’ve learned to rely heavily on my intuition and understanding of composition and mood, using light and shadow to convey emotion and atmosphere. While technology has been a tremendous help in achieving accurate skin tones (with a little assistance from my wife!), I’ve discovered a deeper appreciation for the nuances of light and shadow. My advice? Embrace your challenges as opportunities for growth. Explore alternative ways of seeing the world and seek feedback from others.

3. Continuous Learning and Adaptation:
The photography world is constantly evolving. Staying curious, experimenting with new techniques, and embracing new technologies are essential for staying ahead of the curve. Never stop learning! Take workshops, attend industry events, experiment with different styles, and embrace constructive criticism. Finding a mentor who aligns with your style and values can be invaluable. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have a good friend mentor me, and his guidance has been instrumental in my growth. His positive feedback on my first client shoot continues to motivate me to strive for excellence.

How would you describe your ideal client?

I’m drawn to clients who value authenticity and genuine connection. They’re looking for more than just pretty pictures; they want to capture the essence of who they are and the moments that truly matter. If you’re passionate about your life, your family, or your business, and you’re looking for a photographer who can capture that passion with creativity and fun, then we’re a perfect match!
