We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christy Harst. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christy below.
Hi Christy, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
I was raised in a strict Catholic home and attended Catholic school from first through twelfth grade. And while I have plenty of stories about how that experience shaped me, the biggest lesson it left me with was the importance of being of service to others.
It was instilled in us daily that we had a responsibility to help those less fortunate. We did food drives for the hungry, raked leaves for the elderly, and raised money for the sick. Those acts of service became second nature.
Now, as an adult with a family of my own, I understand even more how life just life’s — things don’t always go as planned, and everyone is carrying something unseen. That perspective has deepened my belief in treating people the way I wished I’d been treated, and the way I hope to be treated.
Because at its core, generosity isn’t just about giving money — it’s about giving empathy, time, and grace.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a voice actor, creator, and the creator of Building Doors — a campaign and podcast all about amplifying women’s voices (literally and figuratively). After years behind the mic, I realized I didn’t just want to book work — I wanted to build something that opens doors for others.
What’s exciting about what I do? Everything. I get to use my voice in every sense of the word — telling stories, challenging the status quo, and reminding brands that women’s voices sell just as much (if not more) than the old-school “gravelly male narrator.”
Through Building Doors, I’ve had conversations with incredible women (and a few brave men) who are navigating male-dominated spaces, changing narratives, and sharing the lessons they’ve learned along the way. It’s honest, bold, sometimes hilarious, sometimes gut-punching — just like real life.
And there’s more coming — we’re expanding Building Doors into data-driven partnerships to actually prove the power of female voices in advertising. Because I don’t just talk about change — I measure it.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’ve learned a ton since starting the Building Doors campaign for gender equality in voiceover. If I had to narrow it down, the three most impactful lessons would be: take action, stay passionate, and trust the process (even when it feels impossible).
First — if something frustrates you, do something about it and tell everyone you know. Chances are, you’re not the only one who feels that way. The more you talk about it, the more people you’ll draw in — and that’s how real change starts.
Second — when you’re genuinely passionate about something, you’ll pour endless hours into it without it ever really feeling like work. Passion has this amazing way of turning exhaustion into fuel.
And finally — patience. I am not a naturally patient person, but running this campaign has been the ultimate teacher. Not everyone is going to like you, and not everyone is trustworthy — and that’s okay. Sometimes the thing or person you think you need isn’t what you need at all. Then, out of nowhere, someone you barely noticed shows up and offers exactly what you were chasing. I’ve learned that sometimes the best thing you can do is put your head down, do the work, and let the right opportunities find you.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
My biggest challenge right now is figuring out how to level up the Building Doors campaign. After almost two years of running it completely on my own — and having quite a bit of success — I’ve hit that point where passion and purpose need a little… funding.
The truth is, even with strong data, real results, and a mission that clearly matters, it’s not easy to convince brands to donate thousands of dollars “just because it’s a good cause.” Companies want something in return — and that’s fair. So I’m working on building sponsorship opportunities that actually offer value to brands and organizations that align with our audience and goals.
But it’s hard. I’m a campaign of one (with the occasional volunteer), plus two kids, a dog, and a full-time voiceover business. Still, I believe in what I’m building — and if I truly want to make the impact I can see so clearly, I know it’s time to get the dollars behind the dream. Wish me luck — or better yet, a sponsor!
