We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chyna Mccoy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chyna, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic is a combination of how I was guided as a child especially being raised by a Single Father who instilled having work ethic being an important factor in everything I do. I learned to have commitment, loyalty, drive, and passion in everything I go after. He taught me not only to have a good work ethic and focus especially on my creativity but also taught me that my creativity isn’t mine alone and it belongs to the world and I was born with the gift to constantly and consistently share my work ethic through my creativity.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Well, I came to California to chase the Dream of becoming an Action Movie Star but since I grew up on Comic books, Cartoons, Anime, and Kung Fu movies, it really expanded my reach in the creative realm. I took on Hollywood and became an Action Actor. I wrote Screenplays and Books. I have been in numerous movies, commercials, and music videos locally and abroad. I have also created my own Comic Book Characters and Directed.
Besides doing Extra work when I first touched down in Hollywood, I got my first big break in the Industry on the critically acclaimed Movie The Matrix as Morpheus’s Action, Fight, Stunt-double. Afterward, I went on to star in indie action films as well as becoming an Action Fight Choreographer and Stunt coordinator. And when I’m not kicking butt, I’m working on my animated productions for my Company WornderToons Studios. and finishing up my New Book My Journey Through The Matrix- the Man in The Mirror which is about my Life working on The Matrix and how I am a reflection of Morpheus being his Action Fight Stunt-Double

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most impactful things i used in life on my journey were, my work ethic, my passion for people and never being taught or learned how to give up and quit. One thing I have to say when starting out is…congrats. Congrats because you started and that is an accomplishment in itself now the goal is to finish what you started even if the roads change. The wonderful thing about chasing the dream or pursuing the journey is it’s much easier than it was when I started back in the 90’s. Everything these days are easily accessible and at your fingertips. Many YouTube, IG, and TikTok videos to show you how to navigate through the waters. Just remember just because it’s easy doesn’t mean it’s as easy as it looks …. think about that one.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Also when i feel overwhelmed especially in the industry that I am in, I take breaks instead of beating myself over the head trying to solve something that doesn’t want to be solved at that moment. I take a walk, go work out, take a drive and get some sunshine, make a nice snack, and watch a movie just to look for inspiration in other places unknowingly. 9 times out of 10, the answer will come along with immense inspiration.
