We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chytown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with CHYTOWN below.
Hi CHYTOWN, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Faith. My faith in God and learning that I’m created to be a light for others as well as myself is what keeps me going. I learned that my intuition fuels my drive towards whatever goals I need to accomplish and with that gut feeling of knowing that it can be done (faith), I’m always determined to achieve success, and in my own definition of the word.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1: Education (in multiple forms)
Shifting focus back to clothing, CHYTOWN (coming from a diverse background of the arts) decided to take her fashion career to the next level by diving deeper into the studies of fashion.
“10 years ago I applied to the Fashion Institute of Technology, with The Parsons New School of Design as my safety school. After getting rejected not once but twice, I walked away from the idea that fashion was in the cards for me. But I then gave retail the next 5 years of my life… that showed me fashion never left me. Fast forward, I am now finishing my Streetwear Essentials Certification from Parsons New School X Complex and have launched a luxury streetwear brand that’s in high demand!”
2: Determination
Everyone has experienced boundaries in some way, shape or form and that’s no different for CHYTOWN. But even the journey to becoming CHYTOWN and growing a consistent career over these last 4 years shows that it takes faith and determination to get where you want and need to be.
“Only God came make the miracles I experience! Sometimes all I have is an idea and faith that those seeds will bring in the greatest harvest ever. And every time, I find a way! But it’s the work that I have to put in that makes or breaks my level of success.”
3: Network = Net worth
Learning the difference between a friend and a fan is crucial to your brand. The people around you should be as invested in your brand as you are in yours and theirs because a key to success is knowing who/what to invest in and making sure that those investments also benefit your brand. The way to tell the difference between a fan and a friend is one simple question; “What’s your favorite…”. Friends know songs by beats, or maybe the catchy hook, fans can tell you when it dropped, quote lyrics and even tell your their likes and dislikes overall. That type of differentiation can literally grow your brand based on feedback, allowing you to create things that they would buy, hence, turning the fan into a customer.
This leads us back to your network being your net worth because the people around you invest in your brand, and in return, they have received exclusive access, merch and more.
Take notes, this is free game!
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I’ve lost count at how many books I’ve read this year alone, but there are a few titles that have impacted and elevated my career overall. But there’s one book (aside from the Bible) that really woke me up. The book that helped me take the independent leap was “Start Your Business on a Ramen Noodle Budget” by Felecia Hatcher which I discovered during the pandemic, and finding that book told me in that moment my journey was completely different, but completely worth it.
Knowing that there were successful people who actually started from scratch (zero dollars, zero business education, zero experience) and providing a formula to go from that to successful entrepreneur was just what I needed… on a ramen noodles budget!… did I mention I was fresh out of college? Building from ground up was the only option, and we all know “the dream is free but the hustle is sold separately “
Since then I’ve tapped in with the award winning author and Black Ambitions creator and have been added to her community of entrepreneurs on the rise. This is a priceless experience because how many successful authors put YOU in THEIR group? So with this, my advice to anyone who wants to thrive and succeed as an entrepreneur, you have to step outside the box and align with your purpose, because the right people will come to you. Also, accept the unknown with the willingness to learn and the understanding that time is needed to make sense of the bumps in the road.
