Meet Ciara Metzger

We were lucky to catch up with Ciara Metzger recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ciara, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

Looking for a silver lining has always come naturally to me. When I think about where my sense of optimism comes from, I can’t help but think of my mom. We’ve always joked that she has a little black rain cloud following her around—she’s faced more than her fair share of bad luck over the years. I learned the concept of Murphy’s Law early on, but I also saw how she responded to life’s curveballs: with a contagious laugh and a remarkable ability to shake things off.

That example shaped my worldview. When things go wrong in my own life (as they inevitably do—it’s just part of being human), I try to meet them with the same goofy chuckle I inherited from her. That lightness doesn’t erase the hard stuff, but it helps me move forward with resilience and grace.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a printmaker and use the blockprinting method (essentially carving my own stamps) to create unique pieces of art on paper and textiles. The most exciting part is how it pushes me to learn and think differently. Being relatively new to the art world and printmaking, it’s been fun to explore, absorb and have projects that keep me accountable to create on a regular basis.

One thing I’m looking forward to is a collaboration with a local vintage curator, Who Called?, on a batch of upcycled vintage clothing. Emma has such an eye for cool pieces!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three most impactful qualities in my journey have likely been resourcefulness, adaptability, and an open mind. For individuals embarking on their journey, being curious and willing to learn are essential.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

Being a business owner in the creative community can be overwhelming. When I feel overwhelmed, I find ways to be outside. Paddleboarding is one of my favorite summer pastimes, and I’ve realized how helpful it is for me to disconnect and be in nature. Find what works for you—whether it’s knitting, binging Too Hot To Handle, spending time alone or being with your close friends—it’s important to listen to your body and take breaks.
