Meet Cierra Green

We were lucky to catch up with Cierra Green recently and have shared our conversation below.

Cierra , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism came from my mother. I grew up in a single parent household. My mother was a single parent that raised 3 beautiful girls. Growing up I watched my mother get up every day for work to make sure our house had stability. Seeing my mother taking care of us by herself definitely made me who I am as a person today. I knew when I started working, I would do everything in my power to maintain that hustle. Growing up I always told myself, I will do whatever it takes to accomplish my goals and chase my dreams.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I was born and raised in Virginia. Growing up I loved playing sports such as Basketball and Softball. As a kid not only I enjoyed playing sports but I also enjoyed wearing the comfortable clothes that we had to wear while playing. As humorous as it sounds, that was the highlight of every game to feel the comfort of the uniform. From then on, I started building momentum and finding ways to maintain an athletic body. In 2011, my whole life changed due to a tragic experience. I tore my ACL playing basketball in high school. Due to my injury, I had to learn how to walk again but thanks to my mother for helping me during that recovery stage. I lost weight from being depressed because I couldn’t move around like I wanted to. From that moment, I knew playing sports again would be tough and I would fear getting injured again. I struggled with making the decision to continue to play sports or never play sports again. While being at home, I begin finding other hobbies to occupy my time after homework. One of those hobbies were researching fashion designers. I was very interested in looking at unique clothes and sneakers. I knew if I didn’t succeed in sports, becoming a fashion designer were one of my dreams. When I returned back to school, I started getting discouraged about college because I knew my mother was a single parent and didn’t have the funds to pay for tuitions. Not only receiving scholarships in academics were an option but I also wanted to receive athletic scholarships as well. I didn’t receive any scholarships but I didn’t let that stop me from succeeding. When I graduated from high school in 2011, I begin working numerous of jobs to take care of my responsibilities as a young adult. Despite going through different changes in life, I can honestly say that I am very blessed and highly favored. In 2019, I was honored to be a Basketball Coach for an association called EGRA (Emporia-Greensville Recreation Association) in Virginia. As a coach, it was pure bliss to help the youth in my community until it was cut short due to Covid. During that time, I decided to venture out and put effort into starting my business called The Build Project.

I am the Founder and Creator of a clothing line called The Build Project. The Build Project is not just a brand, it’s a movement. To reach your goals in life it takes “Blood, Sweat & Tears”. This clothing line is my first child in so many words. I have so many visions and ideas that I am going to bring your way! I have been working on this clothing line for 2 years and it’s finally happening. In June 2023, I launched this clothing line and I can say I’m truly excited bout the new products and events in the near future. I have gym/fitness wear that can be worn in a casual setting also. I have cotton shorts, sweatsuits, T-shirts, and I’m currently working on a women collection also. The women collection will have apparel such as sports bras, biker shorts and leggings. The clothes are very comfortable and as I told you before I enjoy wearing comfortable clothing so I will always put my efforts into this movement. If you notice in the logo of my clothing line I have and “eye” inside of a kettle bell because no matter what you go through, nobody will see what you see in your eyes. Battles can be tough whether it’s working out, dealing with different traumas and different changes in life. Life changing experiences can be tough but I have always said to myself, there will be a light at the end of the tunnel so keep pushing until you get there.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I have experienced so many battles in life but I never let any of them get in my way. I am determined and motivated through it all. I am destined for greatness with faith by my side. I’ve always had a positive mindset regardless any negativity comes into my life. The key is to remain focus and never let someone else makes decisions in life for you. You are the main character of you success and journey of life.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Sometimes it can be very challenging when it comes to having a clothing line. When having a clothing line, I had to understand that everyone isn’t going to support or promote my brand but I can’t let that discourage me. I had to realize instead of worrying about the negative opinions take the positive opinions as motivation and grow from there. Everyone was created equality but born differently. You have to be unique and find ways to stand out from everyone else in a positive aspect of life. I am ready to see what the future has in stored for me. I am The Build Project!
