We recently connected with Cindy Alvarez and have shared our conversation below.
Cindy, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I grew up with entrepreneurial parents who taught me the art of business connections, processes, and marketing within the context of a small business. This early exposure gave me a foundational understanding of entrepreneurship, but as a first-generation college student, navigating the corporate work culture presented new challenges. Without the benefit of mentorship, I faced systemic barriers, feeling overworked and undervalued, which left me struggling to understand my authentic self.
The turning point came when I decided to focus on inner healing and living a fulfilled life. I made a commitment to become more accountable to myself, which involved a deep, introspective journey. I recognized the unique challenges I faced working in a predominantly white field filled with gatekeeping and competition, and instead of allowing these obstacles to define me, I refocused my narrative. By understanding my worth, I began to build my confidence and self-esteem.
I realized that the power within is great, when you aren’t living in fear of worrying of other people’s opinions and failure to succeed. I continued to stay true to who I am and live unapologetically. By the age of 32, I had achieved a six-figure salary and mentored over 30 first-generation Latinas. My goal was to help them recognize their worth, build their confidence, and lean into their passions, values, and strengths. This journey has been incredibly fulfilling, as I’ve been able to build a business dedicated to uplifting others, helping them realize their full potential and achieve their Jefa goals. Through these experiences, I have not only developed my own confidence and self-esteem but also inspired others to do the same.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are resiliency, faith, and compassion.
Resiliency: The ability to see things through when they don’t work out the first or second time is crucial. Resiliency means bouncing back from setbacks, learning from failures, and continually pushing forward. For those early in their journey, developing resiliency involves embracing challenges as opportunities for growth. Setbacks are inevitable, but each one is a lesson that brings you closer to your goals. Build a support network, practice self-care, and keep your long-term vision in mind to maintain your resilience.
Faith: Having faith means dreaming big even when the road to your goals isn’t clear. It’s about believing in yourself and your vision, even when faced with uncertainty. To develop this, start by setting clear, achievable goals and maintaining a positive mindset. Surround yourself with supportive people who encourage your dreams. Visualization techniques and affirmations can also reinforce your belief in your ability to succeed, even when immediate results aren’t visible.
Compassion: Compassion for others, especially those who may hurt you along the way, is essential. Understanding that their pain is often a reflection of how they feel about themselves can help you navigate difficult interactions with empathy. To cultivate compassion, practice active listening and try to see situations from others’ perspectives. Engage in regular reflection and mindfulness practices to maintain your emotional balance and keep your heart open.
For those early in their journey, focus on building these qualities by actively seeking experiences that challenge and inspire you. Resiliency, faith, and compassion are not just innate traits but skills that can be developed through intentional practice and a commitment to personal growth. Surround yourself with mentors and peers who exemplify these qualities, and continually seek out opportunities to learn and grow in each area.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
