Meet Cinthia Torres

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cinthia Torres. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cinthia below.

Cinthia, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Building my confidence and self-esteem is something that has taken a while to build up. Having a great support system has helped me tremendously.
My husband has helped in building my confidence in being able to put my work out there.
While I was pregnant, I got a Kindle as a birthday gift. I then decided to make a Kindle sleeve that could help protect my Kindle while it’s in my purse. After making a few trial and error I created a Kindle sleeve that protected my Kindle and looked cute while doing so. My husband then brought up the idea of why don’t you make a few and open up my own Etsy shop I think more people would love to purchase some of your Kindle sleeves
It has been a year, and I am proud to say that with my husband’s and friends’ encouragement, feedback, and overall support. I have been able to have my Kindle and book sleeves sold in our local bookstore.
Overall, I am very proud of myself. This whole journey has given me a lot of confidence. A lot of ideas for future projects, and it has also helped. My overall mental health ,creating things has given me a new sense of overall positive outlook in myself.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Ever since I was a little girl, I found reading to be a form of traveling to different worlds. I could go to a land of wizards, to a time where knights saved the princess. I would always have a book in my hand and the librarian knew me by name.
As an adult, reading is still my favorite way to spend my time. However, I have also added other hobbies. One of them happens to be sewing. make-up bags is what I love to make that is until I got a Kindle for my birthday in 2022. I then turned my focus to making a protective sleeve for it not just for my Kindle but for my books.
Sewing is a great way to create things for hobbies that you already have. I also love to cook and bake therefore, I make myself some aprons and oven mitts.
Apart from someone with a lot of hobbies, I am also a mother. If you have babies, you will notice that bibs that are sold in stores don’t really absorb the drool. I was able to make my son’s bibs with a waterproof material that helps keep their clothing dry throughout the day.
I have many interests, I’m constantly looking to discover new activities. And from what I’ve learned throughout the years, it’s OK to fail. Just keep trying. You may not get it right the first time, but after a lot of practice, you will succeed.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

There are three things that I have learned
One is that you are not going to master that skill the first time. And that’s fine what is not fine it’s giving up because you didn’t get it right away. For instance I’m learning sourdough and the first time I attempted to make my sourdough starter, it took me multiple tries to get a good active starter.
Number two would be that when you keep trying to work on a skill and you keep failing it’s OK to take a step back. Give yourself a few days, weeks ,months and then come back and work on it again sometimes you just need to have a clear head again, which goes back to my sourdough starter. I had to take a few months off because I was getting so exasperated after doing more research I came back and I felt much more confidence and after a few weeks I was able to get the starter going.
Third thing would be. Have fun have a good positive outlook on whatever it is you’re doing that would give you the confidence to keep going having a great support system like family and friends would make the process flow better

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

The one obstacle that I have is not advertising my business like I should. Making Social reels is something I’m not 100% good at so self-confidence in making it is hurting my business. It’s making it where people don’t see what I have to offer marketing. I have to work on engaging people with my promotions and reels. I have been slowly started to look at how other businesses exert themselves and learning from it.
