Meet Cioxcia Cayson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cioxcia Cayson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Cioxcia , so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
I was always the type of person who was motivated off of the negativity that stems from a hater. I used to love it because, why are you hating? Then I thought well, let me give you a reason to hate. It was something in my soul that became joyous when I saw someone mad and oily ALL because we exist. I grew up hearing how I was not going to be or that in my future. I remember my old friends telling me I would always be a kitchen stylist and how I don’t have anything to show for my successful endeavors. I was being told by therapist and counselors how statically the odds are against people who grew up like I did. My family said that I would be like my parents who was inactive for my siblings, and I lives. I was always determined to prove them all wrong. I would never be none of that. Beat all the odds that was put up against me. Instead of letting it tear me down, I cut all the noise off. If they weren’t motivational, they were out of my life. I became someone off of all muscle, no handouts! Now I’m in my mid thirties and I live by this quote by the wonderful hip hop poet Rico Richie: ‘If you aint got no haters, you aint poppin!” Then continue to do what I do best which is being the greatest of all time.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am Cioxcia, CEO of BookSomethingYo LLC. BookSomethingYo is a luxury hair brand ran by myself. This year makes it year 10. I am mostly known for being one of the few licensed and educated loc specialist in Cleveland, OH. I color hair, grow hair, and can curate numerous of creative styles for any event. Also, my 14-year-old son and I have an oil line called “Water: Essential Oil by BookSomethingYo”. We have two types of oils. One being the “ultra hydration” oil that is made for your hair and beard everyday needs. The second oil is called the “Anti Itch” oil which alleviates topical skin conditions like psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis and eczema. Finally, this year I launched a blog called “Hair Thoughts blog by BookSomethingYo” which is my new letter I sent to my clients ONLY. Where they are asking questions and sharing hair st0res and views on different hair topics with facts from me as a hair professional. I’m excited to have started that. We need more natural and healthy hair out here. This is also to keep my clients engaged with me outside of the chair. They all are so insightful, and I’m blessed to have such a smart, caring, and loving tribe of clientele to promote. This to me is what is special about my brand because my clientele is able to access me outside of the chair. I don’t want to make anyone feel like they don’t matter if the money is not involved. I’m here to be of service to everyone who chooses to trust me in my craft. When I’m not working on my brand, I am a full-time football mom to one son named Arthur. I also have two dogs, Charlie Brown and Czar Cannabishious. I also enjoy growing plants, gardening, cooking, traveling, and trying new restaurants. I also like to learn. I received my first degree in Cannabis Executive Programming from Cleveland School of Cannabis in June of 2023.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Consistency. Half of the battle to starting is being there and showing up to your business.

Integrity. You have to protect you brand honestly, ethically, and morally at all times. Stand on your business! Not all money is good! Especially when your reputation is at stake.

Resilience. Nothing will go as planned ever, no matter how much time you take to organize. Be prepared and don’t feel discouraged when things don’t go right. One day you will make nothing, and the next day, and make $1000 plus. Stay hungry no matter how much or little the day has harvested.

For those who are just starting out, the hardest part is trusting that Gods got you and just going for it.
Don’t let nobody tell you what you cannot do. The dreams are yours, not theirs. Its not for them to understand, just ask for support, and guidance to chase your dream. Don’t be discouraged when strangers support you more than your own.
Lastly, no one is you, that is your superpower. Be yourself because everyone else is taken.
Always be willing to learn so you can continue to excel in the journeys of life, wherever that takes you. Just learn your lesson.

How would you describe your ideal client?
I would say my ideal client is one that is nice, kind and smart. I love a client who is on time and have something knowledgeable to share. I love learning about their jobs, families and how they navigate healthily throughout life, it truly helps me in my own.
