Meet CJ (Carlishia) Johnson

We recently connected with CJ (Carlishia) Johnson and have shared our conversation below.

Hi CJ (Carlishia), really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose when I started trusting God and myself more. It’s one thing for others to believe in you, but believing in yourself is the key to your true happiness and success. I remember when I started doing hair professionally, all I could think of was “My Products” being on all shelves all across the word and I believe the world is about to witness it.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Well, my name is Carlishia “CJ” Johnson and I am 39 years old. I am a God fearing woman with 3 lovely children, an amazing Mother and a slew of family and friends. I have been doing hair since I was able to hold a comb (lol). I have always had a natural gift for doing hair but it wasn’t until 2010 that I would go after my passion professionally. I graduated from HCC Cosmetology Department and would go to claim my fortune of fame in the land of Hair. I always said I knew too much about the body and the way some products really are harmful to our bodies/hair and began my mission for the perfect Natural Hair Care products. Being a natural hair care specialist pushed that passion. I have always wanted my clients natural hair and Locs to look good but to also feel and be great. After years of research, trials and error, I finally have the perfect natural hair care line and I am elated for the opportunity to share it with others.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Believing in myself was so important but I have to be honest and say I didn’t always but I had the confidence and that would carry me far. I worked on believing in myself daily and it would happen as days went on. I never ever gave up even when it looked like nothing was happening. Success is based on your love and passion for your gift, the confidence you have in yourself and the inner drive to never give up on yourself and the vision God has given you for your life.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My amazing kids; Mi’Destini (Thuda), Marcus Jr. (Kido) and Meghan (Megs) have been my push and support since it all started and I am more than grateful continued love and support. My beautiful mother; Warilyn Johnson (MaDukes) is my rock and she has been right there by my side encouraging and pushing for me to never ever quit. Last but not least; My Guardian Angel; Clourid Sterling Gerard Johnson (The 1 and only KID himself). My little brother passing from stage 4 Colon Cancer in 2016 pushed me to go harder than I ever had because I know he always believed and wanted me to be as successful as God ordained and I pray I am making him proud.
