We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Clarence White a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Clarence with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from my family, my team, and life-lessons growing up. As a young man I would always see my family taking care of business and never complaining about any of there struggles or rough days. As I grew up I learned it was easier to get the job done then to procrastinate and push off the task, because it would never get done. I also get my work ethic from my team, they motivate me to keep going whenever I feel like the pressure is to much or things are not going the way we want. I also like the feeling of being locked in, whether its completing a project, or creating a new design that feeling of getting something accomplished brings a certain level of peace and excitement at the same time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have a special brand that I created in 2019 called K.Y.D.A, which stands for Keep Your Dream Alive. In the beginning this brand was a new clothing brand, built while attending Purdue University. At the time I created 3 K.Y.D.A sweatshirts and gave them to 3 of my brothers to wear. After a day they came back to me telling me how people loved the message and gear, and asked where can they get some more so they can let there friends know. After a couple years of upgrades and growth we are now an conglomerate business, with many companies across different industries such as media – photography services, videography service, marketing services, studio rental – recording studio, event space, custom manufacturing, entertainment. We also have business partnerships with companies such as The Main Assist and Fuller Vision.
At K.Y.D.A we are dedicated to fostering a positive, and empowering brand that motivates people to keep their dreams alive. We strive to support and uplift individuals, by providing not just a brand, but a lifestyle that embodies resilience, determination, and the unwavering belief in the power of perseverance.
As we continue to move into the future we want anyone interested in K.Y.D.A and our message to come visit THE K.Y.D.A LOUNGE Studio and check out our space. Visit our social media pages or sign up for our email list so you won’t miss any future events we have.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three skills that were most impactful on my journey, professionalism, critical thinking, and networking. Learning the skill of professionalism prepared me for the professional world in ways of communication, knowing how a professional dress, and being comfortable being uncomfortable. Strengthening my critical thinking skills helped me problem solve and find a solution to many real world situations. Also taught me to keep trying different solutions, especially when the first answer does not work. Learning how to network, not only taught me how to build connections but also how to use those connections to build a solid foundation.
My advice for dreamers early in their journey is keep going, no matter what stands in your way or what people say about your dream, if you not ready to give up on it then don’t and make whatever dream you have happen to the best of your ability.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful things my parents did for me, was to teaching me the value in a product. Growing up I always was taught nothing is free in this world and you have to work hard for the things you want in this world. That lesson has followed me throughout my life, not only with money, but learning the value trust, learning the value in communication, learning the value of time, and many more. This has not only helped me build strong relationships, but it also has been a key value in my way of life.
