Meet Claudia Grimm

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Claudia Grimm. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Claudia below.

Claudia, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

What a brilliant question. I’ve been in many rooms where I should have felt awkward or out of place, but I attribute my effectiveness to two things:

1. Practicing being uncomfortable
2. Having confidence in what I offer

When I started my business, I was attending a few networking events per month, and it felt strange explaining what I do – I was in rooms where it was a requirement to talk about yourself! I was also in rooms where I felt different. Maybe I was taller than everyone else, maybe I dressed too professionally, or maybe I was the only plant care professional in a room full of engineers.

Over time, I became comfortable with being uncomfortable, introducing myself to a room of strangers. And I was so excited about what I had to offer because it was so unique, that I would grow in confidence when someone needed a deeper explanation.

I now attend 2-4 networking events per week and I love having spontaneous conversations! I get to expand my horizons by understanding what goes on in other people’s lives.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I run Zen Plant Care, where I help people keep their houseplants thriving so their homes feel calm, fresh, and beautifully cared for. The most special part of my work is seeing how healthy plants can completely change the energy of a space – they make a world of difference for our mental capacity, as well.

I’m excited about my offering, Teleplant Care—a virtual service that gives anyone with plants expert plant support and personalized guidance from anywhere. It’s easier to talk to a professional first than to try-and-error with living things.

As for the local, in-person services, I can give you a sneak peek into 2026 – we are expanding our services further North… stay tuned!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Support system
2. Strategy
3. Bouncing back

When you start a business from scratch, you need the right support system. If you don’t have it, you probably won’t gain lasting success. I say this because everyone needs cheerleaders. We work harder when we have people holding us accountable and rooting for us at the same time. That would be something I encourage everyone to have – a few strong relationships that grow with you in your endeavors.

Strategy is something you can learn, but I think we subconsciously base it on our goals. If you desire millionaire status, the plan you implement is going to be money-heavy. If you value helping others, your strategy is to maintain that caring feeling. Make sure you align your project strategy with something that will sustain you long-term.

You will fail! How exciting, right? Not everything you test will be successful, so how you handle bouncing back from a setback determines your outcome. Move forward with love and self-compassion.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty.

I read this years ago on the beach in La Jolla, and I soaked up everything Jay was telling me to do. At the time, I was a girl without a plan, feeling a little anxious, but he helped me turn inward. He taught me to calm down with breath and become self-aware of my thoughts and behaviors because I am in control.

Highly recommend!
