We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Claudia Pinzon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Claudia, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
When I arrived to this country 10 years ago, I faced setbacks and circumstances that I had never experienced before. I am a lawyer by profession but a chef by passion. My name is Claudia Pinzon, born in Colombia, founder and CEO of LA CASA DE CLAUDIA EVENTOS LLC. Finding my purpose was difficult, but walking the path was a lot of learning for me as a woman, mother and wife. I feel that God brought me to a distant country to show me, my true purpose in life, to understand that YES, you can rise again despite being far from your family and your environment. My purpose is to leave a legacy of discipline in my daughters and that starting from scratch is not bad, what is bad is not to try at all.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Claudia Pinzon. I have been living in Atlanta for 10 years. I arrived on July 2, 2014 with a 9-year-old daughter and three suitcases. We abandoned our lives to begin a story I never thought I would live. I am a lawyer by profession but a chef by passion. Cooking for me is an art, it is telling those around me how much I love them. That is my love language. The journey of the Kitchen begins with my Lasagnas a product that I love and want like a daughter, they opened a space for me to the World of Cooking and Events, but never in my life I imagined that I would have so many clients, I started with my own economic heritage helped and driven by a wonderful man who believed in me and supported me from day one until now that I have been 7 years with this business that I love and do with passion, which is my husband. The people that know us knows that he is my best company and suitable help as God commands, my daughters are my best partners because they are my inspiration to bring out the tenacity and the caste of the Colombian woman to work with purpose, today I look back and see an enormous growth of La Casa De Claudia Eventos, I have gone through dark valleys and storms that I think will never end, but God has been great and has shown me his love and loyal customers to my service and above all to my seasoning and good food, I thank them for seeing me where I am. Now I am because I KNOW that you are my greatest reference when it comes to recommending someone who knows about good gourmet food but above all made with love and passion. If you think it has been easy let me tell you no, but it has not been impossible, studying and allowing people to help see me grow and let me train is the key to powder tender Something Solid when it comes to undertaking what YOU propose. La Casa De Claudia Eventos has extensive services that we have been structuring for 7 years, DJ and entertainment service, Decoration, cakes and desserts for any event, charcuterie and appetizers table, advice and organization of weddings, Quinceañeras, Anniversaries, Birthdays and Corporate Events. Our motto as a Company is to show our clients that their EVENT will be safe and well planned by our excellent work team.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For me, the three greatest qualities and skills necessary to start a business in a place you don’t know and where your main barrier is the language and culture are: first, patience, a quality that is difficult to proclaim but necessary for your daily life. second, perseverance, that constancy to not allow anyone to damage your dreams and not work for the dreams of others, focus on your own and work hard for what you want and yearn for. third, kindness, that which makes your allies and clients see in your responsibility to develop an event and be able to do a successful job. Starting a business structured in an idea and knowing what you expect from that business in the long term and how you want to develop it, requires study and training in just about everything else to be able to achieve the success you desire. Believe me, it is necessary to train in places like Thelaa with its Avanzando Juntas programs, Acciona or the Latin Chamber of Commerce in its different programs helps a lot so that you can continue growing.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
My obstacle is not being able to develop myself 100% in English, this prevents me from reaching my goal, which is to enter the American market with the services of Claudia Events LLC, since many of my clients are Latinos or Americans of Latino descent. But this will not be a barrier because I work on my own personal development every day, training myself and working towards it.
