Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Clayton with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
“I’ve been working since I was 14, starting with my dad’s lawnmower and mowing yards in the neighborhood. Over time, I grew that into a small business, and when I was old enough to drive, I expanded it even further while also working at Big Star Grocery in Florence, Alabama. My manager, Jonathan, set an example of how to stay focused and productive, and those lessons stuck with me.
After high school, I took on even more—working in kitchens, keeping my lawn service going, and playing music three to four nights a week at the local establishments, all while attending college full-time. That workload wasn’t easy to manage. I lost my scholarship during my first semester because I struggled to balance everything. At the time, I didn’t have the experience to manage that kind of pressure, but instead of giving up, I doubled down, refocused, and worked hard earned the scholarship back.
Looking back, I realize those early experiences shaped my work ethic. I’ve always believed in being dependable, producing quality work, and taking pride in what I do. That mindset is what drives me today as we build Good to Go Luxury Outdoors, where I’ve turned my passion for outdoor hospitality into a business I’m proud of. I work hard because I enjoy it, and I know it’s helping me create a brighter future for my family while building something meaningful for myself and others.”

Reflecting on my journey, I’ve realized that the three most impactful qualities that have contributed to my success are resilience, persistence, and passion. These traits have helped me overcome challenges, stay committed, and create unforgettable luxury glamping experiences through Good to Go Luxury Outdoors.
1. Resilience – Turning Challenges into Opportunities
In business, unexpected challenges are inevitable. I’ve learned to embrace the process and enjoy problem-solving, knowing that determination makes anything possible. One of my biggest personal challenges was dealing with a herniated disc that fused to my sciatic nerve, which made it incredibly difficult to walk or work. After undergoing surgery, I used my recovery time to build my strength and plan for the future. Just as I was ready to return to work, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, creating even more uncertainty. However, instead of giving up, I focused on strengthening my business so that when restrictions lifted, I was fully prepared to hit the ground running.
2. Persistence – Staying Committed Through Ups and Downs
I’ve had an entrepreneurial mindset since I was 14 years old—it’s something that has always come naturally to me. Whether it’s launching new ideas or facing market challenges, my willingness to try and fail has been instrumental in my success. My father always told me, “Persistence is key,” and that advice has stayed with me throughout my journey. Whether it’s refining our glamping business model, improving guest experiences, or growing our brand, staying committed has always paid off.
