Meet Coach Dre

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Coach Dre a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Coach with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My late grandfather worked as an H-E-B truck driver for 39 years, providing for 9 children and my late grandmother, who was the definition of a matriarch. They instilled a strong work ethic into my father and I was able to learn from that watching him as I grew up. The most valuable lesson was: Never to give up on yourself, there’s nothing to cry about- you just have to work harder!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Aside from me being a nurse, as busy as the emergency department is- I still had time to add more to my plate. During COVID, I challenged myself to take the ISSA Personal Trainer and Certified Nutritionist course & tests. Shortly after I added on my brand, The Get Up with Dre. The business is focused on teaching healthy lifestyles by training adults with online custom programs and youth athletes in person. With that came more opportunities to work with some really amazing brands like @STZYfootwear and collaborate with some former NFL players to help out with their youth camps. Coming up here in August I’m excited to meet up with some of the athletes playing in the global Big 3 tournament here in San Antonio. In the fall, November 2nd, I’ll be coaching at an event called, @Hold_The_Line_SA. It’s a growing competition that outlines the most athletic female first responders with a goal of gaining some young females to join our career field!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three things that helped me get here were: Faith, Commitment, Environment. Keeping faith to trust the process that Gods vision is bigger than what I can see. The next level up, means the next devil up but I’m in this position of purpose to evolve!
Commitment is simple, commit to the process so you can arrive at your destination- there’s no other way to get there…Lock in! Environment…this one’s huge! Theres a quote that goes: “There’s 3 types of people, people from around the way, people IN the way & people who MAKE a way…big motion!” Pour into your surroundings with enough leverage to study, learn & become your greater self.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

The Bible.
The vast majority of the Bible is written of ex-cons and felons; Moses murdered a man and did his great religious acts when he got out prison. Paul wrote most of his letters serving jail time on death row. Jesus was locked up and executed on a cross. The wisdom comes from their stories- Come hell or high water, tears, struggles and pain, no matter the circumstances, you have to give up what YOU had in mind and respectfully trust the process. Like Lazarus, we rise up.
