Meet Coach Lee

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Coach Lee. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Coach below.

Coach, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?

My self discipline truly comes from me … I have to prioritize myself because I have to put me first because I’m no good to anybody or for anything else if I’m not putting me first. The reality is that no one is coming to save me, so if I don’t get it done, who will?

I’d say that my self discipline comes from a mix of several things: from my morals and values, from my work ethic, from faith, and from being willing to be resilient and keep trying. Additionally, self discipline is doing things that I enjoy, that I want to do, that I find joy in, and making sure that I’m putting boundaries in place … It comes down to my why, knowing my value, my purpose, and my passion …

By understanding the “why” behind whatever it is that I’m doing, I’m able to keep myself focused and grounded. It’s important to always check in to see that this is something that I want. I’m a person that thrives on structure and a challenge, so as long as I have a why and purpose behind what I’m doing, something that I resonate with, I’ll be willing to do the work, show up, and get it done …

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

As a Productivity & Accountability Coach, I’m all about empowering and coaching professional and corporate women to find the hidden time in their day that they can use to pursue their goals, their purpose, and their life passions, while still maintaining their current responsibilities, but without the overwhelm. As women, we play so many different roles in life, and in playing all these roles and showing up for others, we often push ourselves and our needs to the background as a “someday” thing.

Everything that I do is personalized to YOU. We can’t just take what works for others and assume it will work for you, you have to understand who you are and how you function in order to be able to find what it is that works for you. So, instead of advocating for a one size fits all approach, I advocate and help you to find what works for you based on where you are right now. We often get stuck trying to continue to doing things the same way that we’ve always done them, even when life and situations change, and we see that “that way” doesn’t work anymore. It’s in these times that we have to find the way that will work now and to shift and adjust to that.

I recently published my book, Lee’s Laws of Productivity which is available on Amazon. This book embodies everything that I’m about: simplifying productivity by finding the hidden time in your day. In the book I walk through how three simple words can be used to help you to change the game for productivity in your life. Lee’s Law is a simple, but effective method to not only plan your day, but that you can use to plan your life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

When I think about my journey here: consistency, planning, and discipline are the things that I’d say were most impactful on the journey. As a Productivity & Accountability Coach, planning out what I want to do and when is important, especially when it comes to balancing it across the different areas of life in an attempt to create a balance. Because it’s a journey, and not a sprint, you have to be consistent in showing up and being disciplined to stick to the plan, to show up, and to do the work even when you don’t necessarily feel like it or you find it to be inconvenient.

For those that are just getting going in the journey, I’d say start small. Don’t try to do it all, don’t try to rush, and don’t be in a hurry. Remember that it’s a journey which is why having a plan, being consistent in working the plan, and being disciplined enough to stick through the plan is important.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When feeling overwhelmed, I make a list … I stop and do a braindump. Overwhelm for me often comes about when there are a lot of moving pieces, a lot of moving parts, and just so much to do, but I’m trying to keep it all in my head. But, when I take the time to stop, do a braindump, and make a list of the things that are overwhelming me, I can then work on a plan to let go of that overwhelm because I can see the “problems” in front of me, and can start working on a plan that will be the solution.
