We recently connected with CoCo Wade and have shared our conversation below.
CoCo , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
If there is one thing I know about my existence, is the fact that I was born to sing. I’ve literally been belting out harmonies since early on. My first public appearance as a singer was during kindergarten graduation. A classmate and I were chosen to sing “Greatest Love of All” as a duet. We truly nailed it and got a standing ovation. That very moment sparked my desire to share the gift of song. Since then, I’ve performed easily 500 times and still, I adorn singing every note, from the depths of my soul.
Inspired to impact everyone that I encounter, music has become my language of love. Many would say, I’m the life of the party. The soul snatcher, the one who dances like nobody’s watching. Up and through the streets. In the kitchen, the halls…I’d even dance at “the local hole in the wall.”
As an artist, the most influential work I’ve composed, evolves from the depth of my soul. Music remains the gift that I am most passionate about. If I had to describe it, CoCo Wade the talent, serves as an alter-ego. The singer-songwriter personifies an outlet for me to create, thereby visualizing every thump of my heart, but in song. I am an entertainer by nature and am known to dance by the beat of my own drum. Literally. Because, I had the sporadic fortune of learning to play a full drum set for a newly developing church. This afforded me the opportunity to play for years during my tween years. For this reason, I have a much deeper connection with the art of creating music.
In 2015, I released my first R&B and Soul single titled “Get Loose.” I wrote the composition in less than 30 minutes. The setting for my creativity was our quaint kitchen in the heart of New Orleans. In doing so, I mentally placed myself in a space where music lovers thrive. I pictured the song spinning on jukeboxes in juke joints, with a host of two-steppers surrounding me and a slew of friends. Within moments, I’d come up with what was to become our greatest hit. Smallworld Studio super producer Felton Langlois created the track and featured guitar licks by Kipori Woods, often referred to as “Baby Wolf.”
Now celebrating a milestone of 21 million streams on YouTube collectively, my album titled “Get Up and Dance,” has exceeded my wildest dreams. Get Loose alone has streamed over 15 million times on the platform. I am truly in tune with my creative soul. I love music. Grooving to a wholesome good beat, never gets old. So if you’re ever in the mood to catch a vibe, subscribe to my YouTube channel or download any of my tunes available on all digital platforms worldwide!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Let me take this moment to offer some transparency. I feel it’s important to share my journey in more ways than one. Truth is, recording music provides a safe place for me. Writing is what I believe serves as my haven. I am an artist, one with a heaping mound of success. Success, however, did not come without triumphs. In saying so, anxiety plays a huge part in the minds of leaders and overachievers. I’m not an exception to the rule. In fact, I’m a perfect candidate for anxiety and what it presents. What’s beautiful about the life of a talent and public figure, is the that fact we have the fortune of sharing our story, if and when necessary. It too, can provide an outlet for healing. Whereas the average person tends to bear much of the pain inside. Although it can appear quite embarrassing, sharing one’s shortcomings. But overall, we as entertainers must come to terms with the fact, “to whom much is given, much will be required.” This often comes with carrying the weight of the world on one’s shoulder. The rewards, however, far out-weight the circumstance. It takes a brave individual to open their lives up for speculation and observation by others. In other words, it’s not for the faint at heart.
My music career has taken an upward spiral. Streaming in over 152 countries and with so much more to come. I’ve been fortunate to rank on multiple R&B and soul blues charts across the world. Including but not limited places within the US, UK, Canada, Quebec and Montreal. DJ’s tend to fall in love with the savvy sounds of CoCo Wade. Hundreds of radio stations, personalities, clubs, venues and music professionals, set the tone for viral playlists by adding and spinning hit songs I’ve written and co-produced. It’s awesome to be considered along other super talented artists whose tunes mesh well in a similar groove. My most recent single titled “I Got My Hands Up,” made it way to the charts in UK within days of its release. I’m currently working on an EP which will soon be followed up by an extraordinary full-length album. Listeners and fans are in for an impeccable treat, to say the least.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three most important qualities, skills and/or areas of knowledge I possess are singing, writing and co-producing. I’ve learned so much about the creative and professional aspects of all three. Over the years, the insights and knowledge I’ve acquired has proven to be the height of what has strengthened my success.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Just so happens, I recently wrote three books. One in particular, titled “The Power of Music Money and Monetization.” Currently available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon and several other retail stores. This masterful literary work provides pertinent tools and tips for how to earn revenues as an independent artist, the right way…and fast! It’s been extremely instrumental along my journey and remains the sole reason for how I maintain optimism as a singer-songwriter. We can all relate to the fact that money is a stimulating source and fruitful trade-off for hard work and creativity. In that regard, I’m a firm believer, if an artist works, then he or she must eat. So, yes, “The Power of Music Money and Monetization” thoroughly illustrates the step-by-step approach I’ve used to succeed in this business. I am proof of what’s possible and wish to enlighten all whom I can reach with these powerful insights. If you or someone you know is either in the music business or thinking about it, do consider sharing “The Power of Music Money and Monetization” as an option to lend an opportunity for them to succeed.
