Meet Cody Jay

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cody Jay a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Cody, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity comes from my parents 100%! They raised myself and my siblings to always put others first and if we have the ability to do something positive for someone else to always do it without expecting anything in return. I have truly tried my best to live my life with that mentality. I never put myself first and I always want to make other people happy. I will do just about whatever it takes to put a smile on someone’s face or make their day a little bit better. I do believe that if more people put others first that our world would be a much kinder place. My parents also taught me to value the things I have and the privileges I had growing up as a child. There are so many people that grow up in less than desirable situations and I’ve always been blessed to have had parents who were able to provide myself and my siblings a stable home, a clean environment, a loving household, and they always put us first.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Cody Jay! I’m a certified professional makeup artist, proven business coach, and successful social media coordinator for top beauty brands. I have about a decade of marketing and advertising experience overall, and have created a business I thrive in, because it’s something I’m very passionate about.

I create and publish daily makeup and skincare content on all social media platforms. I specialize in short form video content creation, but of course am very experienced in long form video content creation as well as both product and portrait photography. The goal of my content is to focus primarily on education while adding an entertaining twist through my unique personality. I want people who watch my content to both learn something and have fun!

In addition to my successes as a beauty content creator, I have expanded my business to focus on even more In the social media and influencer marketing world. I created Cody’s Creator Academy in order to help scale the businesses of creators and brands of all sizes. I run all of my platforms/businesses with honesty, integrity and passion. Being able to utilize my education, experiences, and skillset to help other people change their lives and live their dreams is the biggest accomplishment of them all!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’ve built my audience on social media by maintaining my integrity, honesty, and always being open to learning more!

I always have treated my audiences like friends and I support them as much as they support me. We have a very genuine friendship. I stay relatable and humble even as I grow and find more success.

My advice would be to know exactly who you are, what your goals are, and always remember that your audiences are the ones that will allow you to have the opportunities you will get. I’d also say to try to not put too much pressure on yourself or compare your journey to others. Everyone’s journey is unique. You will have plenty of ups and downs, but as long as you’re trying your best that’s all that matters!

In my world, collaborations are very important and very exciting! I’m always open to collaborating with other passionate creators in the beauty space. I’m proud of the content I create and I enjoy plenty of content from other creators. When we are able to come together and create something extra special, I think it’s very exciting from a viewers perspective.
