Meet Cole Fritz

We recently connected with Cole Fritz and have shared our conversation below.

Cole, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

To be effective and successful, you need to act like you are the only one in the room that can do the things you do. As such, you must focus on learning about yourself and your limitations through asking yourself where are my weaknesses and where are my strengths. Once these are found, focus on your strengths and get extremely proficient with them. Your weaknesses try and find a way to manage them to someone else ie hiring someone to do that, or acknowledge that you will be more effective doing the things you are strong at and come back around at a later time to make those weaknesses better. Inaction for a lot of people causes a lot of people to stay the same, so to be successful in anything, it is continual action ie consistency daily to move you forward, even if it is once step at a time.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a personal trainer/strength coach that focuses on redefining and refining peoples individual fitness journeys. In the day of influencers a lot of people get stuck in the thought process that they need to look and perform a certain way inside and outside of the fitness space. With little to no understanding what some people do to look or perform like on the social media platforms. What are you really truly able to do with your time and resources to get to an outcome with your fitness and nutrition that will create a sustainable lifestyle? That is what I truly teach my clients and myself. Being able to create a consistent and repeatable lifestyle to get better everyday, even on the days where people do not want to show up. For me the goal has always been to help people look, move, and feel better about themselves in the real world, not just in the gym. As a result I have taken many people such as doctors, moms, clergymen, dads, athletes, coaches, and more from good, to better, to best!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Know that you can have all the knowledge in the world but if you cannot get people to understand and implement what you are teaching, it means nothing. Communication on a level the individual in front of you can comprehend is the most important thing a good coach can do.

Meet people where they are at that day. What this means fitness wise, is how are they feeling mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Some days are just going to be hard and showing up will do more for you on that day than not, this is how we build resilience to continue moving forward. If the body only has so much to give, take what you can and recover from that and come back again the next time so that way you do not get hurt or discouraged. Overall meeting people where they are is a way to show that you truly care for them.

Teach hard work, you want anything good in life that lasts, you must put in the work. Learn how to get uncomfortable, get scared and learn that you can handle that mentally and physically. It gets easier every time you do this. It also helps to surround yourself with likeminded people who can support you in endeavors like this.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

Its not one single person, but a group of coaches who have done the things I want to do, but surprisingly enough they all fall under the umbrella of bodybuilders. They first learned from their mentors and applied what they learned from them, took what they liked and created a new version of that. Then they each created a separate business model based on their experiences and that is how I learned from them. Basically learning from others successes and failures and teaching the next generation after them how to level up and master their lives.
