We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Colleen Coleman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Colleen, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Believe it or not, I was actually very shy as a child. Moving to new towns twice during elementary school was especially hard, I was always “the new girl,” standing on the edges, hoping someone would notice me. But somewhere along the way, I realized that being the new girl didn’t have to be a burden, it could be an opportunity. I started showing up with curiosity, taking initiative, and being the friendly one. That shift changed everything.
Later, working as a server in high school and then as a promotional model in my twenties, yes, the shot girl, but sober, taught me more about human nature than any textbook ever could. Spending four years talking to strangers night after night, I realized that most people just want to be seen, heard, and connected. Underneath the small talk, everyone is yearning for the same thing: belonging.
As my spiritual journey deepened, I began to see that we’re all the walking wounded in some way, each of us healing, learning, and trying to remember who we really are. The more I invested in my own healing and built a community around me, the more I understood my worth. Confidence, I discovered, isn’t about proving yourself; it’s about remembering that you have nothing to prove.
And in my work now as a medium and healer, that lesson continues. It’s easy to compare yourself to others in this space, but I’ve come to see there’s no such thing as competition in healing, there’s more than enough love, connection, and guidance to go around. Every soul served ripples outward. I don’t see competition; I see a collective of brothers and sisters doing our part to serve the living and the departed alike.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the founder of The Empowered Intuitive, a mentorship and coaching practice for high-achieving women who are ready to overcome codependency, rebuild self-trust, and live in alignment with their true purpose. After twenty years in corporate marketing, my life transformed when my psychic and evidential mediumship abilities awakened through plant medicine work, and that calling completely redirected my path.
Today, I blend psychology, somatic awareness, and spiritual development to help women not only heal but also awaken their own intuitive gifts. My background as a medium uniquely positions me to guide women through the unseen layers of self-doubt and emotional wounding that block their inner wisdom.
In addition to my private mentorships and the Empowered Intuitive Collective, I’m thrilled to be launching a new monthly membership this Black Friday 2025, a sacred space for women to receive ongoing coaching, intuitive development training, and live connection with others on the same awakening path.
My work isn’t just about finding purpose, it’s about remembering who you’ve always been, reclaiming your power, and living as your most authentic self.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three qualities that have most shaped my journey are self-trust, emotional resilience, and spiritual discipline.
Self-trust was the foundation. As a psychic medium and mentor, I had to learn to trust what I sensed and felt, even when logic couldn’t explain it. That same trust is what allows me to guide others back to their own intuition. For those just starting out, begin by keeping small promises to yourself. Integrity builds confidence, and confidence strengthens intuition.
Emotional resilience came through loss, grief, and change, including the end of my marriage and leaving a 20-year corporate career. Growth is rarely graceful, but every time I stayed present with my pain instead of numbing it, my gifts expanded. If you’re early on your path, learn to stay curious about your emotions; they’re messengers, not obstacles. These storms will pass and you will be stronger on the other side.
And finally, spiritual discipline, the daily devotion to stillness, reflection, and practice. Whether it’s meditation, prayer, or time in nature, consistency creates clarity. Developing your gifts or your purpose isn’t about waiting for a lightening bolt, it’s about showing up again and again, even on the quiet days.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
One book that’s had a huge impact on me is Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza. It bridges science and spirituality, showing how we can transform our lives by aligning thoughts, emotions, and energy with intention.
The key takeaways for me were:
Heart-mind coherence: alignment amplifies our ability to manifest.
Rewiring the nervous system: our habits don’t define us; we can consciously create new patterns.
Meditation for transformation: a tool to access higher awareness and strengthen intuition.
This book validated my journey as a medium and healer, and inspired me to integrate these practices into my coaching, helping women step into their gifts and purpose.
