Meet Colton Tran

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Colton Tran. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Colton below.

Colton, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
From a young age I realized that the energy that you put out is the energy you get back. When I was introduced to making films as a kid, I immediately fell in love. The idea of not chasing that dream is what lit that fire of optimism in me. If you want something to happen, it will happen. Just have to have that optimistic mentality and push forward as if it’s already in motion, then somehow it all falls into place.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a film director, producer & editor based in Los Angeles. I moved to LA 10 years ago from Utah with my producing partner and a dream to tell my stories through film. My passion lies within the horror and dark fantasy genre. One of my favorite emotions to evoke in my films is fear. I had 3 feature films release this last year and now we are in pre-production for my new movie, which is called SKETCH.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Ambition has been one my most important qualities that has kept me going. My knowledge of directing and editing film has been a crucial part of my journey in the film industry. My ability to connect with people has been really important all through my life.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents have always supported me since day one, which has been crucial to my growth as a creative. I have always been so grateful for that because without the support I wouldn’t have believed in myself. They have been my cheerleaders and still continue to be.
