Hi Colvin, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Finding my purpose first began with establishing an understanding that my presence on the planet has a purpose, a unique answer to a problem only I could solve. For most of my life, I’ve had the desire to empower others, to help them unlock their inherent potential. Despite being known as “the man with a plan,” I realized that finding my purpose required allowing it to unfold outside the constraints of my preferences.
The turning point came during a conversation with a friend who asked, “Colvin, are you robbing yourself of experiencing the journey of purpose unfolding because you’re too attached to your plans and preferences?” It was a tough pill to swallow, but that question served as the catalyst for my journey of discovering, accepting, and fulfilling my purpose day by day. I’ve come to understand that the process of emerging into one’s purpose takes time, much like the stages of a seed not visible during germination. In every stage, growth is happening, and it requires patience and resilience.
As I navigate this transformative journey, I’ve learned that my purpose is to be a beacon of inspiration, showcasing the potent blend of faith, entrepreneurship, and creativity in both personal and professional growth. I am open to the unfolding of this purpose, understanding that it is not a fixed destination but a continuous evolution.

Like many creatives and entrepreneurs, my journey in graphic design began as a simple interest but has since emerged into a multifaceted career. As a social media director, prolific communicator, graphic designer, and creative strategist, I now cater to a diverse group of professionals and creatives in those capacities. My endeavors extend beyond mere design; I also find fulfillment in speaking engagements where I delve into topics such as entrepreneurship, leadership development, social media marketing, and brand image. My true passion lies in empowering individuals to reach their highest potential, championing the cause of creatives and leaders alike.
Within my time in the creative industry, I’ve identified a common struggle among clients: articulating their envisioned ideas clearly. It’s a challenge I gladly tackle, striving to provide top-tier experiences for clients that yield success in executing ideas and providing innovative solutions for creative professionals and leaders. The pride I take in my work is amplified by the reviews I receive, such as, “If you are seeking quality work, professional service, hands-on communication, and excellent customer service, Colvin Prince is who you need to be working with.” Creating such an exceptional experience for each client is not just a goal but a testament to my dedication and commitment to delivering excellence.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
A pivotal piece of wisdom that has profoundly influenced my journey is the notion of always remaining a student. Proverbs 18:15 embodies this perfectly, “Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge.” This principle emphasizes the essence of continuous growth and evolution. I have found immense value in fostering creative collaborations throughout my career. From the start, I made a deliberate effort to network and forge connections with industry experts and leaders who inhabit the level of business that I aspire to reach one day. This strategic approach presented me with invaluable opportunities to collaborate with exceptional individuals and esteemed institutions. Partnerships with entities like the North Alabama Center of Educational Excellence, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and renowned universities such as Florida A&M University, Tuskegee University, Auburn University, Troy University, and Alabama State University have greatly enhanced my professional journey. It’s crucial to remember that effective leaders are also fervent learners. Embracing this viewpoint equips each of us to navigate our respective industries with insight and impact the lives of those we encounter along the way. Ultimately, the complementary relationship between learning and leadership is the cornerstone of sustained success and influence.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Over the past 12 months, aligning myself with the principles of pace and patience has marked the most profound area of growth and improvement in my life. A pivotal quote, “Be patient. The work you do now is crafting the future you want,” resonated deeply with me, serving as a guiding truth in my journey. As a creative individual, success often overshadowed the importance of mental and emotional well-being. Recognizing the desire not only to excel in my craft but also to foster holistic wellness and confidence in my identity marked a significant shift in my perspective. Engaging in self-reflection and seeking therapeutic support became integral to my pursuit of a fulfilling future. Embracing accountability has not only set me on the path to realizing my envisioned future but has also imparted the invaluable lessons of embracing a deliberate pace and practicing patience at every stage of my personal and creative journey.
