We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Comfort Nyeswah-Wiafe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Comfort below.
Hi Comfort, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
I never wanted to be a person who looked back at my life experiences and say, “I wish I would have done that”. So, I trained myself for many years to be able to look back at my life experiences and say “I did it and it was a learning experience”. The most important component that shaped my ability to take risks is TRUST. First, trusting God that the personal or professional decision will work out for my good. Sometimes the decision does not yield any positive results, but it strengthens my ability to persevere. Sometimes it’s a matter of if I need mentorship, sponsorship, or both. When the decision yields positive results it challenges me to take on another risk. Second, trusting myself based on my awareness of my strengths and weaknesses. I know what’s within my skill set that I can excel at or that will be a challenge. Trusting myself to take risks and make hard decisions improves my confidence personally and professionally. So, whether the risk yielded positive or negative results it was a learning experience.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
We are in a season where mental health and therapy are trending. There hasn’t always been a safe and spiritually aligned space for black indigenous people of color to work through their mental health challenges. So, when I started Comfort Counseling Center in Massachusetts and then Texas, I knew it was an important risk I needed to tackle. There was a strong need for Comfort Counseling Center to be a therapy practice that focus on serving black Christian professionals and entrepreneurs. A need that has gone unnoticed for too long. Black Christian professionals and entrepreneurs are out here changing lives and it was important to me to have a space for them to be empowered so they can continue their purpose-driven work. At Comfort Counseling Center we offer therapy for black Christian professionals and entrepreneurs struggling with depression or high stress. We are committed to helping each person break the chains of feeling paralyzed so they can thrive both personally and professionally. Please be on the lookout for an expansion at Equipped to Prosper to meet mental health needs globally.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three areas in my journey that were most impactful have been trusting the process, seeking support, and determination. Trusting the process which consists of trusting God first and then trusting myself allows me to carry out the plan and the vision that I have. Seeking support is a vital skill that can be neglected when it comes to any plan or business. I have and will always seek quality support whether it’s free or I must pay for it. There are people with integrity and a wealth of experience willing to help and I do not take them for granted. Starting a goal and seeing it through is determination. Having determination is an internal work manifested in external work that yields great results when staying the course of the business. It’s easy to give up. It’s hard to stay on course. It’s harder to grow a business without determination.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of growth has been financial reciprocity. Not every free resource or service will improve my business, so I learned to invest in paid quality services to grow my business. As business owners, we always want people to invest in our business and have a constant flow of sales. However, I’ve learned when I invest in quality services to learn how to grow/improve my business there is a financial reciprocity in my business. So by investing in someone else’s business, I indirectly invest in my business. It allows me to provide the people I serve with a quality experience which is a necessity when it comes to therapy.
