We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Connor Borrego. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Connor below.
Connor, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I’m adopted. Not that it’s ever been particularly detrimental for me, but my mindset has always been that I’m lucky to be in the circumstances I am in. Most people would kill for the opportunities I have. It’s my responsibility to make the most of everything I have at my disposal and keep going, because I probably have it the easiest of most people on this planet today. So whenever the going get’s tough, I have that default mindset buoying me. And when that doesn’t work, a little green air helps me clear my mind and focus on work again.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
From a young age, I’ve always been driven by curiosity. My interests lie at the intersection of technology, culture, spirituality, and personal growth, which has led me to consume a vast array of information and develop an eclectic set of hobbies. Growing up adopted, the way I did, had a huge impact that shaped my mindset.
My journey began with a fascination for peer-to-peer technologies like BitTorrent, which allowed me to access a wide range of content for free, and made understand Bitcoin easier when it came out. While I initially aimed to follow in my father’s footsteps to become a doctor, my passion for helping others and making a difference led me to study political science. Over the past decade, I’ve built a career in marketing and advertising technologies, specializing in data science, and earned a master’s degree in the field.
My unique experiences have reinforced my belief that individuals should have root-level control over their data permissions. In today’s digital age, the lack of an easy opt-out method from data systems, which often misuse information, is concerning. I advocate for solutions rooted in distributed ledger technologies and cryptography to empower people, especially as we navigate the complexities of AI, digital twins, and automation.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Ask questions, no matter how stupid you feel. That feeling will start going away as people give you the information you want to know. If someone gets mad at you for asking a question, they are just embarrassed they are unprepared to answer it succinctly.
Constantly test and mess around with the new tools in spaces that interest you, your hobbies & nerdy interests can become some of your greatest assets in your career. Wanting to have custom gear for my sports team, taught me design skills that I use to save myself money operating my business, simply because I can do it.
Seek out curious people. You are the culmination of the people around you. You don’t need them to have the same interests, passions, goals, or even background as you, they just need to be engaging and interesting to speak with. There is nothing more joyful, than learning by casual conversation. If your friends are more caught up with social, entertainment, or sports gossip, that’s fine, but it’s also an answer to what’s holding you back from doing more, at least at the present moment. There is something to be said for being loyal to friends as well, especially longstanding relationships.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We are looking to collaborate with Marketing Agencies, Content Brands, and web3 Projects to take our digital identity management solution to market. Today the main reason partners want to work with us, is we can help them reduce their expenditures on digital advertising between 30-90%, while driving the same performance.
