We were lucky to catch up with Connor Daly recently and have shared our conversation below.
Connor, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Alongside playing music growing up, I also played various competitive sports. I played baseball for my entire childhood, and then switched to golf and track and field in high school. Both of these sports are individual based, so whether you succeed or don’t, it’s on you. I won the 5A Virginia high school state championships in the discus throw, and went on to compete at the D1 level at George Mason University. The time I spent competing at these high levels taught me valuable lessons and cemented a work ethic in me that has taken me into my post collegiate careers. I really enjoy the competitive nature of the music industry and I am excited to work hard to succeed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Connor Daly and I am an Americana artist based out of Nashville, TN. Though I have been playing music most of my life, I started writing songs in 2019. Since then I have written about 200 songs and have found my voice in music industry. The past year, I have been in the studio recording music for my debut album “Colors Fade”, which has a release date of July 26, 2024. I am eager to finally get my first full length project out into the world. I hope people can relate to one or more songs on the record, and I hope they will be able to see plainly who I am after a single listen through.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I am still pretty early in my journey regarding my career in music. Though one thing I have heard from countless individuals, is to be consistent and do not give up. In industry’s such as the music industry, there will be many more “no’s” then “ yes’s.” I have already seen this to be very true. Any path is worth going down if something you love is at the end of it; no matter how steep and windy. The only advice I would have is to keep going.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My parents have been by my side every step of the way in my music career. Regarding overcoming challenges and building the skills I need to succeed, they have helped very much. For example, I knew I needed to learn the craft of live performing if I really wanted to play music for a living. I began cold-calling different venues around my home in VA. I was lucky enough to start getting dates to play at these places, and my parents went to every single one that they could. After each gig, they would give me some advice and tips on what to work on for the next performance. I know how important it is to have a network of people that love and support you in your endeavors, and I am very lucky to have my family be mine.
