Meet Connor Dean

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Connor Dean a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Connor , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from the fact that I have had to work for everything I have. There were people that would say I couldn’t do certain things or that I wasn’t good at certain things. I started to believe even though I was constantly told I could do anything I set my mind to do. But it was my time in an acting class when my teacher told me “You can achieve what you believe”. This changed my mind set and good things started happening.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Right now, I have a lot of things I’m excited about. but my favorite is the podcast I have with a good friend. It is called Clowns ‘R’Us. Sadly, it has had to be on hold due to the SAG strike, but once the strike is over, we will be back at it! I love this podcast because it gives me a chance to talk about one of my passions which is horror movies!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the three qualities I have that have had the most impact on my journey is my resilience, my individuality, and my people person skills. It is very important for people starting out on this journey to not listen to those that will try to stifle you or your creativity. Always keep following your dreams no matter what obstacles come your way and never forget to be you! It is also very important to be able to network and talk to people on a variety of topics. People will remember you if you always greet people when you enter a room and always thank them for the invitation to the event.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was support me in anything I wanted to do. My mom drove me anywhere I needed to be no matter how far away it was or how hard it was to juggle my schedule. I rarely missed an opportunity. Sometimes I’m not sure how she did it, but she always found a way! Knowing that I could count on them has made a huge difference in my life.
