Meet Connor Vinson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Connor Vinson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Connor , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My clients and fellow creatives. I never feel more optimistic than after working with fantastic people. I think it’s the satisfaction of collaboration that inspires me to keep going. I have learned so much just by working with and observing my contemporaries. Most of the clients I have worked with tend to have a creative eye, and they can teach you things you never even considered, so pay attention and let them throw in ideas!

An ice cold beer while I’m working is also great.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Professionally, my goal is to compose beautiful imagery for my clients. Whether it’s portrait photography or shooting commercials for a brand, I want my work to help bring each project to life. Every creative endeavor is a synthesis of many elements, but I firmly believe visuals are the most important. Our perceived reality results from our brain interpreting data collected from repetitive eye scans, so that should tell you how important visuals are.

I love the problem-solving and creative decisions that come from still photography and cinematography. It’s a constant dance as you move all around your subject to find the right angle. Or, adding lights to a scene…no taking them out…no, actually, moving them over to the right just a bit. See? It’s nothing but experimentation the entire time. I could do it all day. It’s also rare that you have “bad” results. I can’t express how hard and depressing it can be to have to narrow down all the photos you took, or edit down the hours of footage you shot.

One thing I can promise my clients: I will go the extra mile to ensure your project looks amazing. I prioritize quality and professionalism.

As far as what’s on the horizon for me, I am currently finishing a documentary I shot over the last year of 2023. You can find out more about it on my Instagram and watch the trailer in 4k on YouTube. Just type in “Vinson Media” and you’ll find my channel.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
A good work ethic comes to mind. I’m always thinking about the next move and what my plan will be. I feel like I’m always working even if it’s just in my head. Patience is another great skill to have. That’s a tough one though, and I feel as if I’m still working on that one. A good personality is a skill you definitely need to have and continually practice. Your success can only go as far as the people you know, so you want to be personal and develop as many close relationships as you can.

I would tell people new to the game to watch out for sharks. It’s easy to get taken advantage of when you are coming up on your career, especially as an artist. I have worked with certain folks that turned out to be wolves in sheep’s clothing. Make sure you put yourself first and have contracts ready before you sign onto any job where money is involved! I suggest starting an LLC. If you are a filmmaker, make sure that any footage you captured is guaranteed to be delivered to you. Your portfolio is just as valuable if not more than currency.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Networking for sure. Once I really started reaching out to people and getting comfortable sharing my work, I realized how important it is to have a solid list of connections and form relationships with others. For artists, talent is important, but knowing the right people is where your success will come from. I strongly suggest you begin building that base early on. You’ll thank yourself down the road.
