Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Corean Canty. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Corean with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from being a single mom. Raising two kids while going to school, working to build a career, learning to navigate adulthood, manage a household and figure out the kids schedules was a lot. When you are the only one responsible for it all, you find a way. I wanted my kids to have a really great life and the only way I knew how to do that was to work hard. So I did. I made my way up the ladder, checked all the boxes and also burned myself out. I now know how important it is to prioritize health & well-being just as much as work and help others learn to be successful without sacrificing their own health & well-being.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My mission is to help people live happier, more joyful and fulfilled lives.
This mission is fueled by own experience with burnout that led to a health crisis and journey to get well, but also by the reality that there is a such thing as too late and many of us will end up with end of life regrets. I’m witnessing this first hand as I take care of my mother and watch her body and mind become no longer capable of the things she once used to be able to do.
These experiences inspired me to start my Life & Leadership Coaching business and launch the Remember to Live podcast, a place where we explore what it means to live a life and live one well – on our own terms, without regrets.
I thoroughly believe that one of the greatest influences on the quality of our adult lives is our work. If we make work better, we make life better.
Which is why I also co-founded a second company Shift to Play, along with Yoshee Sodiq, where we have a mission of improving corporate culture through play and putting the fun back into work.
I spent over 20 years in advertising and marketing, leading strategy for some of the world’s biggest brands and eventually stepping into a Chief Operating Officer (COO) role. I’ve led both teams and accounts large and small, but throughout my entire career, my focus has been on the people.
I’ve spent the past 15 years studying all the ways to live and be well. I’m certified in Yoga, Ayurveda, Energy Healing, Positive Psychology & Well-being. I’ve also spent just as much time studying improv and play and performing on stages all over the world. Integrating these modalities into workplaces and sharing these tools with my coaching clients has been the secret sauce to helping people live and work a whole lot better.
As the Remember to Live podcast continues to grow, I’m excited about the amazing guests I have coming up where we dig deeper into things like how AI really impacts how we live, the many ways that people are learning to live life differently and small ways to make life better right now. The podcast is available on all platforms.
I’m also really excited about some coaching programs I’ve been working on that will be launching this fall. Stay tuned for those.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the top three qualities/skills that have had the most impact on my journey are curiosity, the willingness to fail and keep going, and finding play again.
My biggest piece of advice is to stay curious. Explore things. Ask why. Follow your curiosity and see where it leads. And don’t be afraid of failure. We are all just testing and learning how to do this thing called life. You learn a lot quicker when you take risks.
And remember to play. Play is so underrated and yet it can be a super power. I did a TEDx Talk on why adults should play more called The Secret Sauce to Better Work and a Happier Life. Check it out…then go outside and play.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
One of the things I have loved doing lately is collaborating with people, team and businesses who are looking to create more fun and playful experiences in life and at work.
I think we are all appreciating real life connection after the past several years and we all deserve to have more fun and definitely more laughs. The world gives us enough of the bad stuff.
Anyone looking to integrate more play, joy and fun into their life or work or create some cool experiences together should email me at hello@coreancanty.com. I would love to connect.
