We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Corey Emry ( 5:16 ). We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Corey below.
Corey , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose when God found me. When God showed me I am loved and cherished he also showed me that I can use my exact story to help others that feel they do not have a voice. Also, I found a lot of purpose through my children. When I open my eyes until I close them I am always thinking about my children. The purpose they have instilled in me through watching them grow has brought a light to my life I never had.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a Cristian rapper and evangelist. I use what the devil meant for bad to glorify the name of Jesus. I use my life lived experience from 11 years of drug addiction and street life to help lead people to Christ. I travel around spreading my testimony and music to give hope to the people who typically never have a voice. I go by the name 5:16 which stands for Galatians 5:16 and it reads “walk in the spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh”. I find this to be so very special because above all it’s Gods calling for my life but also gives hope to the addicts who feel they are to far gone or can never be saved. I follow Jesus and want people to understand no matter how far gone they think they are Yeshua can and will save you and restore your life. I recently started my Breakthrough tour headed up my manager Wayne Hard. We would love to make a stop at your church or organization to further the message of recovery and redemption through faith in Jesus Christ!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Having an intimate relationship with Jesus was by far the most impactful area during this journey. I always pray for wisdom in the spirit and to be guided by decisions that are from the spirit and not from the world or my own will. I had to completely submit to God and what he wanted for my life. Praying constantly and giving praise for everything God does in your life and not just the good can help develop a sharpened spiritual intimate relationship with him.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Loving me through all my mess. My parents have been here for me so very much. When my world came crashing down around me my mom was there to offer her home and her love to show me even through a traumatic life event her love got me through it! My dad has shown me even when we have things happen in life that are unexpected we can pick our self’s up and keep pushing as an example to our children!
