Meet Corey Jones

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Corey Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Corey, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Just being honest, I’ve been through a lot in just 23 years of living. I’ve taken loss after loss at an early age that made me conscious of a choice…..to get up and keep going or lay down and cry. I always felt like I had no choice but to keep going because of my environment. There was no room to lay down and cry ,so at a young age I got through a lot that shaped my compass of resilience. Even created my main philosophy from it “Don’t knock my faith because you weren’t patient “. That is a quote I always would refer to whenever someone would try to detour my decisions when using my faith even would refer to it when I felt low and thought about giving up. Life is hard at times but I always knew to stay patient because of that feeling of accomplishment at the end of that journey! It’s like no other feeling!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Corey Jones, many know me as 2EZ. At my core I’m Godfearing, a family man ,music fanatic, clothing enthusiast, clothing designer, and businessman. 23 years old from Detroit Michigan and I’m an absolute diehard for my city! I’m an artist through and through but on the business side of things I am a Mortgage Loan Originator. I essentially find my clients the best mortgage solution tailored fit to their circumstances. Outside and inside my job I am a student! I attend jackson state university in jackson Mississippi where I will be getting my marketing degree this upcoming year finishing it up. I consider myself a very busy person and I love the fast paced lifestyle! I also make music , and sew when I can ! Looking down the line in my vision , in the next few years I’ll have officially hit the ground running with my own designs and music! For now I’m taking it day by day!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Music is one that is definitely top for me because it’s been in my family for so long! My dad sang and played a few instruments back in the day. My mom played clarinet. both my sister played woodwinds as well. I can go on and on but you get it, I have a family full of musicians therefore it’s been something that’s been instilled in me since birth almost.

Another topic would be clothing. Not that I have any credentials behind clothing just yet but over the years I’ve dove deep in research about clothing from the start of things. Granted I’m not as knowledgeable as a professional , but I think I have more knowledge than the average person. Just knowing the type of material you like is something I can teach someone. Like denim types such as bull denim, stonewashes, chambre fabrics that look like denim! If you ask me and I don’t know , I will the next time you do!

And another topic would probably be sales in business.
I’m licensed and certified in about 40 states in the US as a MLO and it’s all about being obsessed with finding a better way! Caring enough to pay attention to every little detail to assess correctly and I feel like I’m sort of an expert in it!

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

I would say organization of my thoughts! To keep an organized mind for me is essential because I’m used to having a scatter brain at times. Over the past 12 months I’ve been 100% more consistent than I’ve ever been on keeping my thoughts organized enough to keep up with things, not forgetting tasks I have to do and etc. it’s just very important that I keep a clear mind like this in order to keep achieving! It also allows me to STOP just thinking of ideas and just do them!
