We recently connected with Corey Mccallum and have shared our conversation below.
Corey, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from the various struggles I’ve faced in life. From being homeless to dropping of high school. I have experienced a significant amount of pain both physically and emotionally. However, through all of these adverse conditions my resilience was developed and groomed through it all. I wanted more for my self and knew I would accomplish and impact lives because of it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am motivator who enjoys witnessing others win. I come from extremely humbling beginnings, Poverty, witnessed abuse lack and despair. These then unfortunate deficiencies has developed an immense compassion for others including myself. Advancement is what I’m after. Staying unstuck is the goal, No complacency is one of the rules i live by.” Fail forward” If you fail and do fail, Fail going Forward.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities which were impactful in my journey were having an imagination, courage and adaptability. The advice I would give folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these are as follows: Surround yourself with winners, (people who are making a difference somewhere)
2. Set boundaries for yourself and others (you cost, what you cost. don’t put yourself on a discount/sale. People will treat you and your vision the way you allow them to treat you and your vision. 3. Be willing to adapt to your surrounding like the chameleon. (Be relatable) in any room you are asked to be in.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The book that has played an important in role in my development Is ” Chop wood, Carry Water”. One of the impactful nuggets I gathered from this book is that the journey of life will never give me what I didn’t work on.
Another nugget I continue to implement, is there is no convenience in grinding. The dream should be tough to achieve.
“I want to become the type of person people love being around because my life inspires them to become everything they are capable of being”.
“Words put pictures in your mind. Pictures in your mind impact how you feel. How you feel impacts what you do. What you habitually do impacts your destiny.”
