Meet Cori Roberson

We were lucky to catch up with Cori Roberson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Cori, sincerely appreciate your selflessness in agreeing to discuss your mental health journey and how you overcame and persisted despite the challenges. Please share with our readers how you overcame. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

The best way for me to navigate through mental heath issues is praying & journaling. I feel it’s the healthiest to take time to ground yourself, let off the loads of life & just release in the comfort of yourself & God. I personally don’t like venting to others, I isolate, & give myself time to find a sense of peace & calmness throughout the chaos.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Firstly, I’d like to thank you all again for reaching out to me & us creating a bond through Voyage for me to showcase myself & also support you all’s “Hidden Gem Series”. As mentioned in my previous interviews, I am still carrying my jewelry line (@shopcojewels) on Instagram. I sell custom & pre-made jewelry for young women, children, & sometimes men (though I cater mostly to women). My inventory consists of body/waist/hand chains, belly/nose rings, necklaces, earrings, glasses, bracelets, & so much more. I actually just rebranded with everything all new & improved. Everything is looking much better & I’m extremely excited for my fresh start!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The first & most important skill that was impactful throughout my journey , was my customer service. I pride myself on making sure I’m extremely respectful to my customers, & accommodating to them. My business is nothing without its customers, so as CEO, I have to ensure I offer the upmost care & respect to my customers to secure great business relationships & maybe even friendships, further down the line. Secondly, is quality. It’s EXTREMELY important to me to make sure what I pay for is nothing but the best. My prices are my prices due to the quality, I sell mainly Stainless Steel/18k material jewelry. These are materials that ensure your jewelry can last for years without any fading. So, you’re paying for top quality materials with ShopCoJewels. Lastly, marketing. I work with graphic artists to make me nice flyers/content, to catch the eye of newcomers and give my page a luxurious feel. Promotion is very important, but it’s so much better when it’s properly presentable! The advice I can relay to new business owner’s, is to be yourself, be respectful, take your time, & strive for positivity/consistency within your business, it’ll take you far!

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

My parents. Anytime I get frustrated or want to quit they speak life back into me & ground me right back to where I need to be. It’s always greatly appreciated & well needed. Everything isn’t always peaches & cream. I like to joke & call my business “my only child”, although I don’t have any physical children of my own. Business for me is like a rollercoaster, full of ups & downs just as raising a child can be. I face many challenges, & having 2 head strong parent’s who speak positivity into you, is the greatest tool for me to be successful & get my head back in the game.
