Meet Corie Campbell

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Corie Campbell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Corie, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter Syndrome is so real. I love this question because it implies that I have overcome it – haha. I think we need to normalize that in some ways people always have a piece of it. There will always be someone out there who knows more than you do, or is doing more or better than you. But that can’t take away what you know or how well you are doing or how what you are doing impacts others.

Someone once told me that if you wait to become an expert to start you will never start and that you don’t have to know everything you just have to be a few steps further along than someone else. That stuck with me. At some point you have to trust your skill set and press through the awkwardness and just bring yourself to the table and know you earned a spot there.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a personal trainer and nutrition specialist with a studio gym in Cypress, Texas. I work with a wide range of clients both men and women from beginners to experienced athletes. I focus on teaching the basic fundamentals of strength training with a strong focus on form and long term sustainability. Each program is different depending on where the client is at and where they want to go.

What is most exciting to me is teaching others how to find their strength and learn to fall in love with fitness. Let’s face it consistent fitness and exercise is hard to do. As a mom, a wife and a business owner I find it hard to drink all the water eat all the protein get in all the workouts hit the steps and then sleep and recover and this is my actual job! So I really do empathize when my clients are struggling and want to find creative ways to help them reach their goals. The internet is full of conflicting information on the “dos and don’ts” of fitness and the real answer usually is “it depends”. So I love being able to walk with my clients along this journey and help them customize the chaos of fitness and nutrition in a way that fits their goals and supports them in long term sustainability. You have to be able to implement fitness and nutrition in reasonable actionable ways that fit our busy lives.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Perseverance – Ongoing Education & Confidence.

Early in my business I was told, “if you can get past year 3 you have made it longer than most people”. Passing year 3 was a big deal for me (whether or not that saying is true) it was a marker for me. There are always ups and downs and you have to have the perseverance to stick with your craft and the ability to adapt when things change. I think that perseverance and ongoing education work hand in hand for whatever your business is. Things are constantly changing and you have to know how to shift and move with the industry and have the credible knowledge to do so. This is where the confidence piece comes in – you will often have to work outside your comfort zone but I think that is where you really grow and are able to continue to head towards other goals.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Hands down my kids have been my biggest motivators. My oldest son has a rare genetic disorder and with that most tasks associated with daily life are difficult for him. Despite his challenges he has such a positive outlook and his perseverance through challenge is unmatched. Whenever things feel overwhelming or challenging I think of him and what he goes through each day – and he never quits, he never stops trying and I need to as well.

Also my daughter is my little mini me. Knowing that her little eyes and ears are hearing and watching me I am so determined to set an example for her to take up space, to know her strength and to go after whatever she desires and have the confidence to build it herself.
