Meet Corina Martinez

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Corina Martinez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Corina below.

Hi Corina, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from witnessing the women around me push through obstacles they never thought they’d overcome. Watching them unearth their strength and find a way forward, even when everything felt impossible, showed me that resilience isn’t reserved for a select few—it’s within all of us. We just have to discover it.

For me, resilience meant stepping into the unknown—leaving home as a first-generation college student to pursue higher education, navigating undergrad and graduate school without a roadmap, and later, taking the leap to start my private practice with no prior experience and succeeding. None of it was easy, and there were moments I questioned whether I had it in me. But like the women before me, I learned to trust my strength. I realized that everything I needed to keep moving forward was already within me.

Now, as a therapist, I have the privilege of helping other women discover that same resilience within themselves. No matter how overwhelming or difficult life gets, we all can push through—we just need to tap into our inner strength and courage.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My journey began when I stumbled upon a poster for Humboldt State University at my city college’s academic counseling office. That moment changed everything. Fast forward four years, and I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, setting the foundation for my career in mental health.

After years of working in community mental health and group practices, I decided to take a leap and build something of my own. That’s how WOW Mental Health Services (WOW MHS) was born. WOW MHS is deeply personal to me because I wanted to create a space dedicated to women’s mental health. Through my clinical work, I realized that my greatest passion was supporting women—especially those whose experiences I understand firsthand as a woman of color who has done my inner work. I am committed to helping women break generational cycles and achieve a more fulfilling and empowered life.

Looking ahead, I envision a more holistic approach to mental health. I want to help women see that mental well-being isn’t just about therapy—it’s also about physical health, sleep, and nutrition. My goal is to expand WOW Mental Health Services into a space where women can access comprehensive support that nurtures both their minds and bodies.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three qualities that have shaped my journey are: resilience, willingness to learn, and purpose.

Resilience meant trusting that my path would lead me where I needed to go, no matter how many obstacles I encountered. As therapists, we are not taught the fundamentals of starting a business—let alone encouraged to do so. If you aspire to pursue something outside the norm or beyond what is expected of you, trust that you are more than capable of making it happen.

A willingness to learn helped me transition from student to mental health professional by embracing continuous learning and seeking guidance from those who had walked this path before me. I had to learn, unlearn, adapt, and reshape my perception of myself. Therefore, growth comes from curiosity—so be open to evolving and investing in yourself.

My deep connection to my purpose—helping women heal and grow—has kept me going through every challenge. Without that passion, the obstacles along the way might have felt overwhelming. Finding your “why” is essential—it’s what will sustain you through the inevitable ups and downs of life and work.

For those early in their journey: trust the process, seek mentorship from those within and outside your field, and dare to pursue what is truly meaningful to you.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is a woman who is ready to prioritize her mental health and break free from generational patterns that no longer serve her. She seeks a safe, supportive space to explore her emotions, heal past wounds, and cultivate a healthier relationship with herself.

Whether she is navigating life transitions, overcoming self-doubt, or feeling stuck in relationships, she is committed to growth and open to discovering her inner strength.

My practice is dedicated to supporting women, especially those who have felt unheard in traditional spaces. I believe every woman carries resilience within her—I simply help her discover it.
