Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cory O’neal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Cory, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
It was difficult finding the industry I wanted to work in long term when I got out of college. I tried my hand at accounting, car sales, and gig work but nothing seemed to fit. It was when I was helping an interior designer set up her office furniture that she gave me the idea to start a Receiving Company and I have never looked back. I would say that I find purpose in providing a good place to work where all people are valued. It is harder and harder to find a job that is fulfilling, fun, and pays well so I take pride in having created such an environment.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
At Design Logistics Group, we provide expert white-glove furniture receiving, inspection, and installation. We work with a multitude of designers on projects all across Colorado. It gives myself and our team an opportunity to see parts of the state and amazing homes that they otherwise would never get to see. It is very exciting to see the designer’s vision come to life when we finish projects. The before and after is very satisfying.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important qualities to help someone succeed in whatever they are working on are kindness, dedication, and attention to detail.
Never be dishonest, always be kind to people in your orbit. If you care about what you are doing, dedication should not be an issue. Attention to detail requires constant practice and focus but can keep you from looking foolish.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
My solution when I am overwhelmed is to just focus on one thing at a time. Take plenty of breaks and remind yourself that you are in the position you are in because nobody else could be doing it better. It is very helpful to just step outside for 5 minutes and focus on positive thoughts.
